Would anyone know the templates for A. The number of the episode, B. The writer of the episode, and C. The Air date of the episode? I'm working on a new template to add the credits to the pages. - Sunnys <BIBLE|-- ~Talk~

We discussed this before, but I didn't really see any conclusive justification for this, so I'm opening it up for discussion. Why should this be a template at all? The number, writer, and original airdate for the episode are all in its infobox. What is the point of having completely redundant information in the article? TigerShadow (talk) 11:28, 14 May 2014 (MDT)
Yeah, the infobox has the number of episodes (top left corner), the writer of the episode (under crew tab), and original airdate with an option to drop down and see all the airdates. A new template would be redundant and excess work (I know because did about 600 of the 750 episodes adding the new infobox). Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 12:39, 14 May 2014 (MDT)
Look, I already told Tiger that REDDO TOLD US TO, don't you remember, Wooton? Bad Luck. That was the example. Ask Reddo if you want to he's the one who set it up. Now does anyone know the templates for those? They are for adding the credits to all the pages. - Sunnys <BIBLE|-- ~Talk~
Neither you nor anyone else told me anything of the sort; the only infobox information that I have received was months ago when I helped SWA a bit with the infobox template. This is the most justification I've heard for this since I asked in the first place. Do we have any resources to indicate that Reddo said anything of the sort and why? TigerShadow (talk) 16:35, 14 May 2014 (MDT)

Like Tiger said could you link the page of that conversation because no I do not remember (hence my POV)? I am possibly warming up to the idea but still think it is redundant. Regardless, if we do come to the conclusion it is a good idea then a) a template would be good and b) a bot could easily do all the episodes at once. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 16:54, 14 May 2014 (MDT)

I'm sure it was posted on Town Hall, but conveniently it isn't there. I guess we'll just have to ask Reddo. But to avoid an edit war, I ask you not to remove the credits. - Sunnys <BIBLE|-- ~Talk~
Okay, I found where it was mentioned News:Archive/2013/08/09 and Reddo was the editor that added that bit. Still, think we should wait on an official word about it. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 22:03, 14 May 2014 (MDT)
Oh, okay. News Archive, that make sense. Almost checked there, too! I already asked Reddo. - Sunnys <BIBLE|-- ~Talk~
It does seem like it would be helpful to have that on the episodes, and I would gladly help with putting them on. Gaberk 12:20, 15 May 2014 (MDT)
The thing is, though, that was before we added in all the new infoboxes, so it might no longer be necessary. As SWA said, we need to wait. TigerShadow (talk) 13:46, 15 May 2014 (MDT)

Oh, I didn't know that... Gaberk 19:18, 18 May 2014 (MDT)

Sorry for taking so long to, time just kind of got away from me.
wow, I didn't mean to create so much drama, when i said that I was thinking of doing how wikipedia does it on tv show pages it was just an idea though, we don't have to do it. Reddo (talk) 09:19, 6 July 2014 (MDT)
I remember saying that although I have no idea where, what i was thinking of when i Reddo (talk) 09:19, 6 July 2014 (MDT)
So, does anybody know those templates? I just tried unsuccessfully experimenting to create or use some templates. Also, what code language does the wiki run on? - Sunnys <BIBLE|-- ~Talk~
Hello? - Sunnys <BIBLE|-- ~Talk~

Check.svg Implemented I just implemented an automatic lead-in in the episode infobox. It should appear on a given episode page if you clear your cache. We may want to substitute the lead-in text on the actual episode pages in the future, but this approach should give us an idea of how it looks. Erwin Springer [talk] 15:57, 13 August 2014 (MDT)

The Other Side of the Glass

Are we so sure that the location of the See Right Glass Company is in a town called Greensboro? I just listened to the three-parter, and it sounded to me like the town was actually called Greensburg. And if it is Greensboro, must it be the Greensboro in North Carolina? There are at least six Greensboros in the United States—if indeed the AIO setting isn't a fictional town to begin with. TigerShadow (talk) 17:43, 24 May 2014 (MDT)

The Odyssey guide says it was in Greensboro North Carolina. It's very possible that it's wrong, seeing how in the episode it doesn't really say for sure.--Isaiah 40:31but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. ~ Jason ~ (talk) 15:17, 25 May 2014 (MDT)
I wouldn't raise such a big issue, but the only problem is that the town being Greensboro, North Carolina, all but definitively states Odyssey's location since the town is only a relatively short drive away, and aside from the states that we know Odyssey's not in, I don't think we're supposed to know where Odyssey is. TigerShadow (talk) 16:36, 25 May 2014 (MDT)
I think the idea is that they could have traveled from another state. If anything it leaves the location of Odyssey as a bigger mystery. I do recall now that, we listed it as Greensboro, North Carolina because of the Official Guide, which I would assume would have more knowledge on where the writers based the city on. Which is another point, I don't know if Greensboro, North Carolina is the actual city or a real city that the fictional Greensboro is based upon. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 08:55, 26 May 2014 (MDT)
Check.svg Done I went ahead and noted this goof on the 25th Edition Page. -Scientific Guy (talk) 16:21, 16 November 2014 (MST)

Moving Pages

How do you move pages? - Sunnys <BIBLE|-- ~Talk~

There's a drop-down arrow at the top of the page next to the "Read", "Edit", "View History", and "Watchlist" buttons. When you click on that arrow, it will show a "Move" option, and when you go to the "Move -insert page name here-" page, it will show guidelines for moving and there's a place at the bottom where you can type in where you want to move the page. Then, like in the edit pages, there's a place where you give your justification for moving the page. TigerShadow (talk) 19:39, 2 June 2014 (MDT)
Great, thanks! - Sunnys <BIBLE|-- ~Talk~

Template:New Episodes

For years, we've had a template on the front page that shows the newest episodes and the next upcoming episode. However, now that we have the OAC, which releases a new episode each month, there's going to be a bit of a conflict coming this fall. There will be a new episode each week, and a new OAC episode each month. I propose we create a separate template for new OAC episodes, and put both the "New OAC Episodes" template and the "New Episodes" template on the main page. That way people won't be confused. What do you guys think? Gooey98 ~ (talk) 21:15, 16 June 2014 (MDT)

Interesting point, we should come up with something to show the difference, if we have two templates then the "new episodes" templates will be kind of unused I think we should keep it all together but put a small logo next to the episode title, any other ideas Reddo (talk) 18:16, 5 July 2014 (MDT)
I made some changes, what do people think? Reddo (talk) 15:51, 6 July 2014 (MDT)
I like the new setup! Now it's easy to distinguish between a radio episode and an OAC episode. Erwin Springer [talk] 15:59, 6 July 2014 (MDT)
I though that the OAC logo was a bit hard to read at 15px so I replaced it with an image of the letters "OAC." Erwin Springer [talk] 16:34, 6 July 2014 (MDT)
I like it! Thanks Reddo! :-D Gooey98 ~ (talk) 17:52, 6 July 2014 (MDT)
I thought it was readable before but I have an eye for seeing things that are only a pixel or two, I bumped the size of the logo up to same 30px of the letters, is this readable now for everyone else? I just think the logo is a little more recognizable then the letters, I also threw in the tool tips that I made yesterday Reddo (talk) 19:04, 6 July 2014 (MDT)
Nice work! The "tool tip" is great and I really like the larger logo. However, I'm wondering if it would behoove us to remove the hours:minutes:seconds counter. The box is starting to get a bit congested. Plus, if we switch over to a counter that just uses days, the page will have to load less javascript, which might make the page load slightly quicker. Erwin Springer [talk] 19:17, 6 July 2014 (MDT)

Love is in the Air, Part 1

Love in the Air has the wrong album artwork on the front page, anyone know how to fix it? - Sunnys <BIBLE|-- ~Talk~

That was one that never had a new 3D picture made. Usually Nate did those. I wasn't aware that we still needed some of those made still. Some of the Gold Audio Series need to be redone too. See here. AIOCREfan ~ (talk) 21:34, 19 June 2014 (MDT)
Actually, it got an updated cover and this error has been fixed. - Scientific Guy (talk) 21:35, 26 September 2014 (MDT)

The Ties that Bind

Source at Focus says it's a fourteen-parter. - Sunnys <BIBLE|-- ~Talk~

What source? I'm prepared to believe this, of course, but what sources are we dealing with here? TigerShadow (talk) 20:49, 19 June 2014 (MDT)
See Talk:The Ties that Bind, Part 1. AIOCREfan ~ (talk) 20:54, 19 June 2014 (MDT)
Well, that works as well, but I actually read it in a Focus magazine. - Sunnys <BIBLE|-- ~Talk~
They had that info in a Focus magazine? Which one? i thought my blog had the introducing article of the ties that bind parts 1-14. Jamesobie (talk) 21:40, 19 June 2014 (MDT)
The album has been released, and it has 5 CDs with three episodes on the first four and two on the last. Source: http://www.whitsend.org/en/albums/58-the-ties-that-bind.aspx -Scientific Guy (talk) 21:40, 26 September 2014 (MDT)

Mobile Site Opening on a PC

Hi guys! It's been a while since I've visited. The wiki looks great! I'm having a little trouble browsing the site on my PC. My browser keeps taking me back and forth between the desktop version of the site and the mobile version without notice. I'm on Windows 7 running the latest version of Chrome. Erwin Springer [talk] 13:06, 24 June 2014 (MDT)

I'm also on Windows 7 running the latest version of Chrome, and I have had that problem as well. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 21:20, 24 June 2014 (MDT)
I use an iPad for the most part, but my browser is Chrome, and I also have this problem, so it's not just PCs. TigerShadow (talk) 23:40, 24 June 2014 (MDT)
I have had the same issue ever scene the wiki switched to using the mobile template. It happens most often on the episode pages; but I have had it happen on the actor, Schedule, album and other pages. tested on Firefox (versions whatever was current when the wiki switched - 30), opera 11.51, and IE 8 all on vista. Aiow 08:44, 25 June 2014 (MDT)
hm, just off the top of my head it sounds like this might be a caching issue, I'll have to look into it but what I think is happening is that a user visits page x on a mobile device, it gets cached as a mobile page, then a different user visits page x on a desktop and it serves up the cached page instead of the desktop version. Reddo (talk) 15:52, 28 June 2014 (MDT)
I agree that caching makes sense; it happens most often to me on the episode of the day, which likely has the most mobile traffic. Proverbs 22:9A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor. Elementus Green 10:27, 2 July 2014 (MDT)
I use chrome on windows eight, and i have never had a problem. Maybe windows eight is the whats wrong. Also, what is the big deal? The mobile version of this site looks great too! Jamesobie (talk) 00:54, 1 July 2014 (MDT)
The big deal is obvious. Don't be that guy. Nobody wants to use the mobile version on a desktop; it's simply more limited. It's just a fact of mobile sites in general.
I haven't had the problem on my newer computer, only on my mom's old laptop; as far as I know they're both running the same version of Windows but I'm not positive, it could be fixed with a newer Windows 7 update. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 18:37, 6 July 2014 (MDT)
I have never visited the site on a mobile device (I do not even own one). I have cleared the cache, and the problem persists. But the local cache would not account for the problem across different browsers. Aiow 09:37, 9 July 2014 (MDT)

There' a server side cache that we use to speed the wiki up a bit, that's where the problem most likely lies, not on a local cache, I haven't had a chance to look into it yet Reddo (talk) 18:24, 9 July 2014 (MDT)

Character Charts

I developed a template to automatically display the span of episodes that a character was on the show. You can view its results here. Currently it won't play well with characters who premiered in split episodes or episodes that don't have an episode number that's not actually a number, but it works well for most characters. Could this be something we incorporate on character pages or on family pages? It's obviously not a very useful display for the thousands of one-time characters, but I think it displays useful visual information for characters that appear in multiple episodes. Erwin Springer [talk] 11:20, 2 July 2014 (MDT)

Hey, that's awesome! I would vote for incorporating it in character pages. Although I do think it should show some sort of timeline above the graph, but that's probably easy to add. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 10:10, 3 July 2014 (MDT)
I just created a more sophisticated version here. Erwin Springer [talk] 19:48, 3 July 2014 (MDT)
Nice! I like it, not sure if you've fixed it or no but for the episodes that don't have a number there should be a sort key that could fix the problem Reddo (talk) 18:25, 5 July 2014 (MDT)
I was able to fix that problem, but I had to create the template {{Episode Position}}, which would have to be updated from time to time with new episodes. Is there any way to grab the position of an episode in Category:Episodes sorted by Airdate using dpl? In other words, is there any way to create a more automatic version of {{Episode Position}}? Erwin Springer [talk] 18:41, 5 July 2014 (MDT)
Doesn't look like the most efficient template I'll see if I can find a better way, I made a slightly different version of your template here thoughts? Reddo (talk) 21:07, 5 July 2014 (MDT)
I switched mine over to use the sort/ep_num from the templates, and it seems to work faster, it doesn't look like there's any parameter in DPL to get what we want from it, we might have to add a new parameter to the infobox template to get everything perfect Reddo (talk) 21:47, 5 July 2014 (MDT)
That looks awesome! It seems like it loads a bit quicker than my version. I also love the pop-up episode titles! Is there any way that we can have the pop-ups link to the episode pages? Erwin Springer [talk] 10:10, 6 July 2014 (MDT)
I think we can probably link those too, I also think it'd be cool to use these on other pages for themes and genres if we ever get around to making them Reddo (talk) 23:02, 6 July 2014 (MDT)

I updated your page to use percentages instead of pixels (Thanks User:Eugene) and to use the new chart parameter, so we shouldn't need your template anymore Reddo (talk) 18:26, 9 July 2014 (MDT)

Awesome! It looks great! I moved it into the template namespace by creating {{Episode Chart}}, a more general template, and {{Character Chart}}. Erwin Springer [talk] 18:53, 9 July 2014 (MDT)
Couldn't it just be implemented into the character template? Or would that not work? Gooey98 ~ (talk) 16:02, 10 July 2014 (MDT)
yes we could, I think that's the plan once we've finalized the design, I've added the years to the top of the chart, I think it's nice but I'm not set on it Reddo (talk) 21:18, 11 July 2014 (MDT)
I like the way it looks but I noticed that the years aren't all equal distances from each other. Is that a bug, or is it supposed to be that way? Gooey98 ~ (talk) 22:11, 11 July 2014 (MDT)
They aren't supposed to be the same, it depends on how many episodes were made in each year, 2013 has just 12 episodes so it gets ~12 pixels, 1990 had closer to 50 episodes so it gets 50 pixels. I also made the hover text into links but used css to keep the same look Reddo (talk) 22:21, 11 July 2014 (MDT)
Oh, of course, that makes perfect sense. I wasn't thinking about how the number of episodes hasn't been consistent year after year. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 12:10, 12 July 2014 (MDT)

I made a modification to include all of the years above the chart. Let me know what you think. (You can create a chart here.) Erwin Springer [talk] 17:12, 19 July 2014 (MDT)

I think it looks awesome! I think we should start incorporating it on the character pages! Gooey98 ~ (talk) 22:21, 24 August 2014 (MDT)

Album 58 spoilers

I was thinking that for 58 since it's both a club exclusive and a normal album we should try to fill in the details as soon as possible while it's still on the club but only take the spoiler warning off after it airs on the radio, thoughts? Reddo (talk) 18:34, 5 July 2014 (MDT)

I agree. We should have updated information, but we don't want to spoil someone who doesn't have access to the episodes. Erwin Springer [talk] 18:45, 5 July 2014 (MDT)
I think that now, that just a few days ago the album was released (Today is Sept. 26), that we can give as many spoilers as we want; but I know some people who just listen to the radio, so we can put that red spoiler button thing on the episodes. Scientific Guy (talk) 21:44, 26 September 2014 (MDT)

A New Stub Template

I'd really like to see if we could revise the {{Stub}} template. I think it's a bit too intrusive and very distracting. A few years ago, the user Eugene created a more discrete template here. Personally I'd love to go with Eugene's template. It's much slicker than the current one. Does anyone have any thoughts? Erwin Springer [talk] 16:08, 6 July 2014 (MDT)

The new version works perfectly with the new infoboxes. So I would say go for it! Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 06:43, 7 July 2014 (MDT)
Check.svg Done. I took some initiative and implemented the new template. Huzzah! Erwin Springer [talk] 19:34, 7 July 2014 (MDT)
I like it too. But it may need just a bit more work. If you look on this page, you can see that the box is starting to chop off some of the text on the page. Also, I think it would look better if it was a complete box instead of just the bottom and the sides and in the center of the page, not on the right side. Despite all that, I really do like it and of course those ideas are just my opinion. What do the rest of you think? AIOCREfan ~ (talk) 08:12, 8 July 2014 (MDT)
I tweaked the css, it's better now on that page, but we should keep an eye on the template to make sure it works everywhere else Reddo (talk) 08:34, 15 July 2014 (MDT)

AIOFansite- assistant editor needed!

This is a call to edit the AIOFansite! It is aimed at anyone who has a Google account, knows a lot about Adventures in Odyssey™, and is a good writer. I created the site, but need another editor to ice the cake. Is anyone interested? Jamesobie (talk) 07:55, 7 July 2014 (MDT)

Hey Jamesobie, I don't want to be an editor of the site, but for the future, I think you should put a SPOILER ALERT on a post if you're going to spoil new episodes. Please. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 12:36, 7 July 2014 (MDT)

Project: Album Links

If you're looking for a way to contribute to the wiki, feel free to help with this project! Currently most of the album pages have links to other websites between <pagesidebar></pagesidebar> tags, which we no longer use. These links can now be transferred to the infobox. To do so, add these lines to the infobox:

| hq = link to AIOHQ
| ol = link to Odyssey Library
| ods = link to the Odyssey Scoop
| sf = link to the Soda Fountain
| we = link to the official site

I believe that most album pages have links already at bottom of the page between <pagesidebar></pagesidebar> tags. If you add these lines to the infobox, but be sure to remove them from their old spot when you're done. Some pages may not already have links, in which case you'll have to find them on the other websites. However, please note that not all sites have pages about a given album.

You can see an example of the infobox links on Album 01: The Adventure Begins. If you'd like to help with this project, post album pages you've adjusted on this page to save someone else the trouble. Happy editing! Erwin Springer [talk] 16:53, 9 July 2014 (MDT)

Optional: While you're making this adjustment on an album page, be sure that if it has a description that has been taken right from the album itself that it is placed inside this template: {{cquote|desc. here}}. This is not becoming the standard policy. Also, the {{Albums}} navbox at the bottom of the page (along with any other navboxes that might be there) should be placed under a == Resources == header. Again, to see how these things work, visit Album 01: The Adventure Begins. Thanks! Erwin Springer [talk] 17:09, 9 July 2014 (MDT)
Thanks for fixing the template to meet the new one. I kept failing miserably. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 19:26, 11 July 2014 (MDT)
P.S. Not too sure about that bar before the other websites. Thoughts on removing it. (Which is out of my technical abilities because I believe I attempted to do so at one point) Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 20:03, 11 July 2014 (MDT)

Past logos

Is there a page anywhere that shows past logos of AIOwiki? I was trying to remember what the logo looked like before the 2011 logo contest, but I can't find it anywhere. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 21:52, 9 July 2014 (MDT)

AIOWiki before the 2009 one it was just the AIO logo Reddo (talk) 22:04, 9 July 2014 (MDT)

New Cast Infobox?

In the last few years we've updated almost every section on the episode pages except the cast section. I think it might be time for a refresh. One idea for a new cast infobox is below:

Characters Actors
John Whittaker Hal Smith
Tom Riley Walker Edminston
Eugene Meltsner Will Ryan
Connie Kendall Katie Leigh
Julius Schnitzelbonker Chuck Bolte

Any thoughts? Erwin Springer [talk] 18:12, 14 July 2014 (MDT)

Not to be stupid about it, but is there a need or a reason to sort by characters or actors alphabetically? Also, right now, it is being sorted by first name. Should it be kept that way or changed to last name? (And I posted a comment above about the new stub template and no one has replied yet.) AIOCREfan ~ (talk) 21:13, 14 July 2014 (MDT)
It looks kinda nice, definitely more modern. Maybe add some color to match the other infoboxes? The only thing I was thinking is it would be nice to set the template to only use one template, instead of a separate one for each number of characters. Although the code would be long unless we use a Loops extension (do we have one?)
--KnightMiner (talk) 07:24, 15 July 2014 (MDT)
Wow, I guess I was stupid about it. Apparently alphabetical sorting has been on the wiki for quite some time and I never noticed it. I also failed to see that this version looks significantly more modern than the current version. I guess that's what happens when you are editing late at night. Anyway, I am definitely all for it. AIOCREfan ~ (talk) 07:57, 15 July 2014 (MDT)

I think it's an improvement, I also made a new template that works for up to 50 characters as just one template, it also has better support for dealing with characters with odd name situations, like Amanda (a) we can now just show Amanda but have it link to the (a) page without messing with the sorting options. Same with Katrina she can be Shanks before she's married and still link to Meltsner, so far it's only on Whit's Flop Reddo (talk) 09:16, 15 July 2014 (MDT)

Looks good, although you could replace the excessive type=Episodes with a variable in the subtemplate, and have the infobox header template set the variable. --KnightMiner (talk) 14:51, 15 July 2014 (MDT)
I don't have time to edit it right now, I have to run to play a double header soccer game and then it's back to work tomorrow, but if you want to change it feel free Reddo (talk) 17:06, 15 July 2014 (MDT)
Check.svg Done. This also allows any other templates to use the chart more easily (like if we add videos and LCD Episodes). The rest of the code in the template is now just redoing the same thing again.
--KnightMiner (talk) 19:53, 15 July 2014 (MDT)
So when this is a go, does this have to be placed manually on each episode page? (To say correct for the {{!}}, that we used to use?) Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 15:06, 16 July 2014 (MDT)
With the way the code is written, the previous use of {{!}} still works, the new version just looks better. It is just using both that would be a problem. It's mainly replacing just changing the template over. --KnightMiner (talk) 17:11, 17 July 2014 (MDT)

It does make sense to change it to last name though... It seems like that's how most people do it. Gaberk 21:02, 17 July 2014 (MDT)

That does seem like it makes more sense...however, if you were looking for a specific character, you might not know their last name, so first might be better. Wow, I never realized how tacky the old template looked until I saw it compared to the new one. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 18:47, 18 July 2014 (MDT)
Great job Reddo and KnightMiner! The template looks great! It will nice to be able use one dynamic template in the future! As for sorting by last name, does anyone know if that's possible? The only methods I can think of involve reorganizing the data, which would be very inconvenient. My personal feeling is that having the table sort by first name is just fine. Erwin Springer [talk] 17:19, 19 July 2014 (MDT)
I also feel that first name is fine, however I might be able to do some javascript to get it to sort by last name without having to edit all the pages Reddo (talk) 18:04, 19 July 2014 (MDT)
I added some js that enables sorting by last name, it can be seen on Whit's Flop, I might be able to make it so that it sort in this order:
  1. A-Z first name, last name
  2. Z-A first name, last name
  3. A-Z last name, first name
  4. Z-A last name, first name
  5. back to 1
would this be welcomed? or should I not bother with it Reddo (talk) 22:29, 19 July 2014 (MDT)
Honestly, I don't think very many people care to sort it by last name. But I don't know what everyone else thinks.Gooey98 ~ (talk) 22:40, 19 July 2014 (MDT)
Some people may not know what the last name is as Gooey98 ~ (talk) said, and doing it Z-A is just backwards so it would make the most sense to go with number one. Gaberk 11:19, 22 July 2014 (MDT)
I believe what Reddo meant, however, was that he could configure it so that each time you clicked the up/down arrow, it would switch to a different one of those options. Not a bad idea, actually. That way people could have it however they wanted...the only potential downside I can see is people who completely don't get it and just get really confused when they click it and it doesn't go back to the way it was before until they've clicked it 5 times. But they'd figure it out eventually. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 17:07, 22 July 2014 (MDT)

I thought that might have been what he ment, but with the model that Erwin Springer [talk] put up there wouldn't be a way to scroll if you needed to. You would have to put another set of arrow keys and that would get confusing.--Gaberk 06:38, 23 July 2014 (MDT)

Because there seemed to be consensus that we want to use the new template, I had my good friend Erwinbot replace the older templates with the new {{Episode Cast}} template on all of the episode pages. Huzzah! Erwin Springer [talk] 17:35, 23 July 2014 (MDT)

On Matthew Parker, when I click "Brandon Gilberstadt" and then "Gunnar Sizemore" is adds episodes to the page rather than replacing the previous list. Or was this what you were going for? Erwin Springer [talk] 20:54, 31 July 2014 (MDT)
Bassett family, along with Walker family. Oddly not with the Whittakers. Also with {{Character appearances}}, all disables by clicking an actor, but the actors do not disable once they are first shown. --KnightMiner (talk) 21:00, 31 July 2014 (MDT)
not sure what I was thinking when I did the CA template the first time, it should be working now. those trees look fine to me, that's all done with CSS so it shouldn't be any different than it was before the upgrade Reddo (talk) 21:28, 31 July 2014 (MDT)
Just found out it is caused by my web browser, and only the one I normally use, which is not too well known of a web browser... I'll try fixing it in my personal css then. --KnightMiner (talk) 14:29, 3 August 2014 (MDT)

What browser do you use? we could add in some js browser detection to load the css to fix it Reddo (talk) 21:34, 6 August 2014 (MDT)

Comodo Dragon. It's a chromium based browser, but is still a little different. --KnightMiner (talk) 10:41, 8 August 2014 (MDT)
Whatever you just did to McAlister family fixed it there, so it may be a problem with incorrect formatting of the template. --KnightMiner (talk) 11:09, 13 August 2014 (MDT)

Katrina Meltsner page move

Regarding the recent move of the page Katrina Meltsner, {{Character appearances}} comes up with no results. Can someone with a bot account fix that by changing Katrina Shanks-Meltsner to Katrina Meltsner? --KnightMiner (talk) 20:10, 31 July 2014 (MDT)

I'll see if I can tackle that. Erwin Springer [talk] 20:14, 31 July 2014 (MDT)
Check.svg Done. Erwinbot has switched Katrina Shanks-Meltsner with Katrina Meltsner in all of the cast boxes. When the cahce resets on her page (and her actors' pages), the episode list should be correct. Erwin Springer [talk] 20:29, 31 July 2014 (MDT)
Alright, is someone going to change the character pages like Reddo suggested on Talk:Katrina Meltsner? I would, but I haven't edited pages like that in a while and am lacking in time today. And after that, someone (perhaps a bot) should replace Katrina Meltsner with Katrina Shanks on all episodes before she was married. Personally, I would say for the episode that they got married still be displayed as Katrina Shanks-Meltsner, since she was Shanks before she was married and became Meltsner afterword. Thoughts? AIOCREfan ~ (talk) 10:29, 1 August 2014 (MDT)
That makes sense, I could do some if we need to do that. I have a whole lot of time today.--Gaberk (talk) 10:48, 1 August 2014 (MDT)

Album Lists

I love this wiki and access it all the time. I was just thinking when trying to look up and album that it takes way to many clicks to get to an album that you want to see. Maybe its just me but when I click an album I expect to see a List of the 57 main albums with maybe a link at the bottom for specialty stuff. Anyway that's my two cents worth. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mdb17 (talkcontribs)

Template:Currently Airing

I was attempting to update Template:Currently Airing, but I have run into a problem, namely, the episodes on the focus on the family website are very inconsistently named when it comes to multi-part episodes. Part 1 in a 2 part saga may be named in the url "1-of-2", "part-1-of-2", "pt-1-of-2", "pt1", "part-1", or simply have no mention of parts.

My question is the best fix for this, should I add a very large switch with exceptions to the most common, link directly to the files, or can a widget be added that will figure it all out?

--KnightMiner (talk) 12:12, 13 October 2014 (MDT)

a large switch statement would be bad for performance, we could just link straight to the files, might be the best solution for now Reddo (talk) 15:29, 13 October 2014 (MDT)
Linking straight to the files has one flaw though: they are actually the files, which would allow people to illegally download them. Normally you don't see them, but if you have a really old laptop that cannot use flash player (like my old computer), it would link you there.
Other than that, lua is also an option, although it would take me some time to figure out how to make the template (I have a little experience with lua). KnightMiner (talk) 07:16, 14 October 2014 (MDT)
yeah didn't think about the downloading illegally, lua could be a good option, the only other thing would be to remove it, at least temporarily until we come up with a better solution, maybe our own full audio player that has unique urls for each episode (hopefully a Christmas project for me this year). Reddo (talk) 14:08, 19 October 2014 (MDT)
So, I am having a few errors in the lua module, and looking up the errors seems to state an out of date lua version. Special:Version states our current version is back from April. Nevermind, just me failing at lua.
The module seems to work now, see User:KnightMiner/Sandbox. Irregular part names can be added to Module:Currently Airing/parts as needed, and that part of the module only loads once per page to reduce possible lag.

Katriona Kennedy

Shona's mom plays the nurse in Life Expectancy, Part 1, but it says her mom's name is Katriona Kennedy. This is Shona's sister's name. On the podcast released today, they say Shona's mom's name is Karen. On The Saguaro Sisters website, it says her name is Karona. Maybe Karona is a stage name? Her name must be one of these, but it's not Katriona. AIOrocks101 (talk) 20:18, 13 October 2014 (MDT)

Free Episode Download

Would it be alright if I add the link to download the free episodes on their pages, or can we change the 'Infobox Episode Information' template? -Scientific Guy (talk) 17:59, 25 October 2014 (MDT)

the Template:Infobox Episode Information already has a option for free episodes and podcasts. To add that podcast link to a episode page, add a line and pus this "| podcast = 202" change the 202 of the podcast number the episode is in. Look at The Ties That Bind, Part 1 for an example of how to ad the podcasts. Aiow 08:15, 16 October 2014 (MDT)

Just a little inquiry...

I've just a little question for trivia: How many branches of the wiki do we have? I mean, we have aiowiki.com/wiki, and then aiowiki.com/w, and finally we have aiowiki.com/playground. How many are there? -Scientific Guy (talk) 17:59, 25 October 2014 (MDT)

There's also /interviews just a place for uploads of really big interview files, then there's two backups that store everything that was on the wiki at that time, playground is kind of dead, although maybe one day I'll make some new stuff there again, and wiki isn't really one either it just redirects to w through the use of .htaccess Reddo (talk) 18:21, 25 October 2014 (MDT)

It should be fixed as soon as the server stops caching the DPL. Episode 4 had the wrong chart number, causing it to get overwritten by episode 5. 8 also had the wrong number, causing it to overwrite 7. --KnightMiner (talk) 10:45, 5 December 2014 (MST)

FAIO

There's been a debate on the Soda Shop on whether we should link to Faio in the List of Websites. The conflict is partially over whether it's ethical to use the site or not. I think we should decide what our policy is regarding Faio, as it's kind of controversial. We don't want to have an edit war of any sort on here. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 11:54, 9 December 2014 (MST)

Thank you for looking ahead and trying to resolve conflicts before they arise. We do already have a policy on FAIO. While I cannot seem to find the first time it was brought up and decided, here is a response I recently gave another user who was making an FAIO page for the wiki:
You may not be aware, but Focus on the Family has asked FAIO webmaster multiple times to shut it down. They are linking to files on Focus's server and places on the web where episodes are illegally hosted. Their setup is way too easy to illegally download episodes, ultimately harming AIO. The only reason FAIO still exists is because of Focus' kindness in not starting a lawsuit against them. For this reason, we at AIOWiki also do not support FAIO and so do not have a page for them.

AIOCREfan ~ (talk) 15:44, 11 December 2014 (MST)

Is there any way to sort the editors on here by number of edits? I was wondering who the top editors were, and I couldn't find any simple way to figure it out. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 18:02, 15 December 2014 (MST)

Unfortunately, we used to have one of those. But then users kept making very small edits to try to reach the top, so we had to stop it. - Sunnys <BIBLE|-- ~Talk~
As an alternative, you can try Special:ActiveUsers, which shows the number of edit in the last 30 days of any user who edited in the last 30 days. (although the latest mediawiki version seems to have partially broken that) --KnightMiner (talk) 08:55, 18 December 2014 (MST)

Going inactive

Hello,

Due to personal and life constraints, I don't see myself logging into this wiki in the near future. So, for security reasons, I'm requesting that I be removed from the Administrators and Oversights groups. Thanks, American Eagle talk 23:45, 19 December 2014 (MST)

I'm asking a question

I am not really familiar with much when it comes to website development etc. I wouldn't know the first thing about creating something on a web page. I joined this group so that I could add my votes to the episode pages, and to hopefully learn from you all. I do have a talent for noticing spelling and grammatical errors, however. (This is not usually appreciated though!) While reading through some of the episode pages I have noticed quite a few little things. I'm an OAC member and I've been following along with them while listening to all of the episodes. It's really nice! One thing I noticed was on the episode "B-TV: Thanks". In the 'Notes' section, in the 7th line of the poem, it reads: Cranberry sauce and candy jams. I believe it should read: "Cranberry Sauce and candied yams" instead. I listened to it a couple of times to make sure, as well I think it would make more sense this way. Would you want me to note here the mistakes that I find, or should I go ahead and fix them? How would I do this? I don't want to offend anyone, so if you'd rather I just ignore these, I will. I really appreciate all of the hard work done by all of you!

Donna Perez (talk) 21:49, 20 December 2014 (MST)

If you just want to fix spelling and grammatical errors, then just click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page, then find the error and fix it. As far as formatting is concerned, I usually click the Edit tab on a similar page so I can see how it's supposed to be done before I replicate it. You can also look at the Help page to see how to make basic edits. TigerShadow (talk) 11:59, 21 December 2014 (MST)
I appreciate your response. However, I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Do I need to know about formatting if I'm just fixing spelling errors, or the like. If I do need to know that, is there someplace that I can learn about it? I'm amazed that I figured out how to indent this comment. That's just how clueless I am! LOL I am willing to learn, however. Perhaps I should talk directly to an admin about this. (If you are an admin, I'm sorry!) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Donna Perez (talkcontribs)
You don't need to know anything to fix spelling errors. All you need to do is edit the page, and just select whatever word is misspelled and retype it. As simple as using Microsoft Word.
You only need to know a bit of formatting if you're modifying the text with bold or italics or adding a link or using a template...something a bit more complicated than spelling errors. But even those are pretty simple; only took me a few minutes to learn. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 09:33, 24 December 2014 (MST)
Thanks for the help Gooey98... I am slowly figuring out how to fix things. I am glad I found this site, I'm learning things I didn't think I'd ever know how to do! Thanks to all of you! Donna Perez (talk) 16:52, 24 December 2014 (MST)
