Infoboxes

I created a template here for puting the letters "vde" in an infobox template. V- View the template D-Discuss the template E-Edit the template. This would be used in a scenario like this:

I'm looking at the whit's flop page and see that their is a typo in the episode infobox. Instead of pushing edit and then scrolling down looking for the template, find the template and the editing it, I could just push the e to take me right to editing the template from the page it's applied on

Let me know what you think. Erwin Springer [talk] 01:52, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

the idea is okay, but I don't like the idea of having it on the infoboxes, I don't thing that it looks good up there and I think that users who don't know how the templates work might click the e to edit what appears in the infobox on that page, if we had nav boxes or something similar like there is on wikipedia then there would be a good use for it but we currently don't have anything like that, Reddo 02:50, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Main Page

I tried to come up with a new main page design that would be based more on templates, and be more simpler. I tested it here. It links to a number of sub-pages. It's not that good, but I want to know what you think. I can't seem to get the quote and the episode to work correctly. I was trying to make it so they were side by side. Erwin Springer [talk] 01:32, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

It looks nice except I think the top needs some work. Peachey Keen 23:15, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I couldn't figure how to fix that... Erwin Springer [talk] 23:22, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
I like the concept of having 2 different shades of the same color in one box like that, I also think that replacing the welcome box with the random quote box and moving the news section higher up, but it needs a lot of format fixing Reddo 23:46, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
I put together a new design mostly based on the current design here. Let me know what you think Spiderman 23:39, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
That's really cool, but could you use the random qoute thing (at User:reddo/testing)? Erwin Springer [talk] 23:42, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
I added a quote box Spiderman 04:14, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
I think that instead of "Quote of the Day" you should put something like "Featured Quote" or something. God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk
We should have a contest similar to the logo for a new main page design. Erwin Springer [talk] 01:37, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
Yeah we should. It would be fun. God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk
I think that we should remove the welcome section from the main page and move the quote section to that place, no other fan site has it and we've been around for almost 2 years now, have over 1000 pages, and get over 100 visitors a day, people probably know who we are by now. Also is there anyway to fix the appearance of Spiderman's design in browsers other than firefox? In chrome and IE the edges of the box appear a little jagged, Reddo 20:11, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
Yeah I saw that when I was looking at it on a different computer, because I only use Firefox. I'm not sure how that would work, because it's that way with all of the infoboxes. I agree with the first part as well. God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk
I tested it in Safari as well, and the edges are jagged as well. God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk
I updated my main page design a little bit here User:Spiderman/Main2‎. let me know what you think. Spiderman 02:19, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
I really like it! The 'Quote of the Day' thing is very cool. One little thing, and I'm probably alone in this, but I kind of liked the New Releases being thumbnails, because it was easy to just glance and see if you'd missed anything that had been released; plus sometimes things are released right on top of each other. Other than that it's neat. Oh--except for the little warning thingy (ONE G) at the bottom of 'quote of the day'. I hope I didn't do that? I changed the quote, it said 'preciously' instead of 'precisely'. Rachel Maxwell 05:32, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
It wasn't just her. I as well really liked the New Release thumbnails. I think that Quote of the day is not appropriate, because it is a random quote and not a "quote of the day". It could be entitled with something like "Featured Quote" or It could be under the welcome area. God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk
I'll leave the new releases how they were. The quotes section I'll change to Featured Quote. If there's any other sugestions let me know cause I don't really know what else to do with it. I would like to change the navigation but i need some inspiration. Spiderman 04:20, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
I dunno if you could do this or not, but it might look neat to have the Featured Quote, instead of in a box, underneath the welcome. Or something. Rachel Maxwell 21:27, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
I see Mark changed the front page to the new design. If anyone ever has ideas and wants me to work on the design just let me know! Spiderman 01:51, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
I really think that we should incorporate a character's picture into the main page. If we want I might even be able to make like a whole group thing like I did for my blog. God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk
Sweet guys. I'm really diggin the new menu page!! Dr. Bluegaard 04:24, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Quotes

I fixed the jagged edges on the page. I don't really like the quotes how it's being done now with this page: User:reddo/testing. Is there any way to pull the quotes directly from the episode pages like we do with everything else? Spiderman 03:48, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Like this:
{{#dpl:|title=The Spy Who Bugged Me|includepage=%7}}
Produces this:
Result hidden to solve problems on other pages. — Eugene [talk] 23:00, 14 August 2012 (MDT)
The problem is that not all episode pages have their quote section as the seventh one. Erwin Springer [talk] 13:03, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
I really like the idea of taking the quotes off of the episode pages as it follows with what I've tried to do with the rest of the templates in that when you update something in one place it adds it to another place. However there are a few problems with this right now. First as Erwin said the quotes section is not always in the same place on the page, this is fairly minor and wouldn't be hard to fix. The bigger problem is that there is no way to distinguish between pages that have quotes and those that don't have quotes, also if a page has multiple quotes on it there is no way to limit it to display only one of them. I have an idea of how we could get around it but it's not the most user friendly solution. I'll think about it and see if I can come up with anything else Reddo 18:17, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
It doesn't matter whether the quotes are in the 7th section if you pull them like this:
{{#dpl:|title=The Spy Who Bugged Me|include=#Quotes}}
The problem is that there are more than one quote on the page and most pages don't have quotes added yet. Spiderman 20:13, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

(re-indent) Okay after a bit of work I think I got something worked out that we can use, we move all of the quotes to a new page (in the format of Quote:Episode name/random number) like is seen here (right now i have the random number set to just be the current time, it's needed so that when somebody adds a new quote it's created on a different page from past ones), we then replace everything in the quote section with the quotes template which uses a dpl query to generate something that looks like this. This will allow us to separate all of the quotes into different pages to be able to pull one out for a featured quote section on our mainpage, like is seen here, right now it's set up to change to a new random quote each hour.

Everything still needs a bit of tweaking (remove extra line on episode pages, add episode name for random quote, few other minor things) and we we need to decide on a format that we want to use for all of the quotes,

I think that this is a fairly user friendly solution, and it also solves the problem of breaking up the multiple quotes. Anyways let me know what you think, this was a pretty spur of the moment idea so there may be a few issues with it. Reddo 00:29, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

I don't understand what the "random number" is for. But everything else looks great! Erwin Springer [talk] 01:43, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
it's not quite a random number but it's just there so that when a user clicks to add a new quote to the page it will end up on a new page and not one of the existing pages Reddo 02:10, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
I was able to get the source of the quote to appear as is seen here, now we just need to come up with a format that looks good to put the quotes in. Reddo 05:59, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
Let me get this straight. I enter this into the search bar (example):
=Quote:Do or Diet/random number=

and create the page. I write ==Quotes==*{{quote|speaker=Wooton|quote=MMM, brownies? Sorry, the whole previous thing didn't really make sense. Dr. Bluegaard 02:34, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

From What I Understand, no. First that episode page (Do or Diet), didn't have a quote template, so I added it:

== Quotes ==
{{Quotes}}

Then click the link that says: + Add a quote and type out:

{{quote|speaker=Wooton|quote=MMM, brownies}}

Erwin Springer [talk] 12:23, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Ohhhhhhh, okay, I think I get it. That's a lot easier than what I originally thought was. 76.20.82.143 15:54, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
I've completely redone how the quote parts work, it looks the same but now all of the quotes are put right on the page itself instead of having a separate page for each quote, I've redone the quote Spiderman's main page to use this new format (though right now it can only pull the first quote out, I'm working on it though). for an example of how to use it see here. I changed it as the old format was working properly everytime for the mainpage and, it was adding a new page to the wanted pages for each place we had the template Reddo 23:32, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

I think it looks perty good, for a new wiki. the home page could be improved, but not absolutely necasary. --I'm Country at heart, and I color outside the lines. :-) 02:22, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Actually, AIOwiki will be two year old in may. Erwin Springer [talk] 12:32, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

past air dates in the infobox

I had an idea yesterday on putting more complete lists of past air dates into the infobox, I tried it out in the Sandbox Episode. It grabs the dates from the schedule pages so it wouldn't be hard to add it to the rest of the pages, all we need to change is the that we need to link to the episode from the pages in the schedule namespace instead of linking from the schedule pages, and then change a few templates to use the new {{delink}} template. It's just an idea I had, I've been kind of sleep deprived lately so let me know if this is a horrible idea Reddo 19:30, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

I like the idea but is it possible for the date format to be the same as the original date aired with Month day, year like March 5, 2009 instead of 5 March 09. Spiderman 20:57, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
That makes sense, I fixed it along with the last air date section Reddo 21:07, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
An update on how this is going, I redid the parser functions for the main page and sidebar to delink when needed, I went through and linked all the pages in the march and april schedules, I did some work and got Reddobot working on the old existing schedule pages to link them making it easier on ourselves.
What still needs to be done, update the calendar template to reflect the change in location of links, and fill in the old schedule pages, it would probably be quickest to continue just putting in the name of the episode and then having reddobot follow it up and link all of the pages Reddo 20:53, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
This works great on the episode pages. We just need to finish the schedule pages. Spiderman 20:11, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Adventures in Odyssey wiki review

Shouldn't we add more questions to the wiki's review? 2 questions doesn't seem like it would tell you much. I thought of a few new ones, also, couldn't we put the results of all of the reviews somewhere accessible, or maybe more prominent if it is already accessible? Here are some other questions:

How did you find us? search engine, a friend, another website (if yes list which one), somewhere else (if yes where)

Do you plan to return to the wiki? Yes/no

Do you plan to become a user on the wiki? Yes/no

etc.

maybe you aren't able to customize the review, but just a thought. Dr. Bluegaard 00:01, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

I believe Natedude24 put that on the main page a while ago but he never posted any of the results. I think we should probably either remove it or make one with visible results. Spiderman 01:40, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
He's right anout Natedude24. (look here). You can talk to him on his talk page. Erwin Springer [talk] 13:47, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

schedule

I think that I've found a way to automate the creation of the majority of the schedule pages, we'll have to go through and fix up some of the pages eg change "II" over to "Part 2", but it should cut down on alot of the work. It might take me a day or two to get to it though as I have some university assignments to catch up on. If anybody wants to help speed up the process they can create an excel sheet with the first column being the date and the second one being the episode, for all of the months that we are currently missing, if the year could be added in another column it would also help, if anybody has time to do this send it to me at myusername at gmail.com Reddo 00:16, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

The schedule is Check.svg Done!! Erwin Springer [talk] 23:42, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

1000000

I'm going out for the night and I was wondering if someone would be able to take a screen shot of the statistics page when we get to the 1,000,000 page view mark later tonight for me. Thanks Reddo 22:01, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

Check.svg Done Sorry, I was one over, but I just got here. I didn't format it so you could do whatever you want with it.

Erwin Springer [talk] 22:27, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

thanks for doing that, I still can't believe that we have had over 1 million page views since this site started, with 80% of those coming since august of last year Reddo 06:01, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Albums

I'm happy to say that all albums (pretty much) have been updated to the current standard! Erwin Springer [talk] 17:52, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Yay! Reddo 20:53, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
That's really cool. So by "pretty much", what did you mean? What can I help with? Eugene
Just one album, I didn't put the infobox on because it doesn't have a picture (I think). Erwin Springer [talk] 20:41, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Character Infobox

How do you put a picture into the character infobox? God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk

Put aline like so somewhere between brackets:

Yep sorry I figured that out after like 5 seconds. I feel stupid now, for posting this. Oh well. God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk

How do you make a Wiki?

I have a big question: How do you make a Wiki? I have looked on Wikipedia, but I can't find anything there. --Trimmaio 22:23, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Well uou need to buy a domain, but if you want afree one, try youwiki. Erwin Springer [talk] 22:26, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

I think that instead of having just "Welcome to AIO Wiki!" on the main page we should have something like this:

Testwelcomelogo.png

If this picture was used for the main page it would look like this:

File:Testwelcomepage.jpg

I can absolutely edit the picture to however you guys want it. God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk

Currently I don't see a need for it, but it may be a good idea! Erwin Springer [talk] 16:52, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
I like the idea. Spiderman 22:00, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
That's a GREAT idea! --Trimmaio 16:13, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
We could have a vote whether or not to make the changes you suggest on the home page! --Trimmaio 21:15, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
That might work, I'm not sure. Of course for the logo we would want to have the one what was the winner of that logo contest, bu other than that it seems like a fine idea to me. Dr. Bluegaard 04:05, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
Yeah I thought of that; the problem though is that the logo is too incredibly small for me to do basically anything with. And plus when the background was taken out, the edges got all messed up. So the option for an alternate logo I think would be to recreate it, unless of course the person who won the contest has a larger version. God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk
If you check the Test Welcome Page you can see what the new home page would look like if we put that photo up. --Trimmaio 18:43, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Links in Infobox

It just occurred to me that we could easily (may be) put links to other fan sites in the episode infobox. May be we could put pictures similar to the itunes links. Most of the sites have an easy naming convention. These are the links for Whit's Flop:

AIOHQ: http://www.aiohq.com/1987.htm#1
Odyssey Library: http://aiolib.com/episodes.php?season=1&epmode=detailed#episode1
Odyssey Scoop: http://www.odysseyscoop.com/episodes/Episodes_1987.htm#OUSA1
Soda Fountain: http://www.aiosoda.com/episodes_view.php?episode=1#1
Whits End: http://www.whitsend.org/vault/A000000134.cfm

This is text that could be put in the infobox for the links:

AIOHQ: http://www.aiohq.com/{{{year}}}.htm#{{#expr:{{{ep_num}}}+0}}
Odyssey Library: http://aiolib.com/episodes.php?season=

The whit's end link would be the hard one.

I tried it in the Sandbox Episode and testing template. It worked!! Erwin Springer [talk] 00:14, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

I got to thinking and know that the hard thing would be Family Portraits and Truth Chronicles episodes, but could be fixed. I don't think we can use <pagesidebar> tags in templates too. Erwin Springer [talk] 12:27, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
I just put pictures for three of the sites with links to the sites. I don't know how to get a logo for Whits end or AIosoda though. Erwin Springer [talk] 13:19, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
I'm not sure how the logo's will look when we scale them down, also it's more complicated than you think for aiohq, when nathan created that site he used a fall - spring format for the seasons instead of a spring-fall format that all of the other sites use, meaning in the later seasons about half of the years will be wrong Reddo 23:18, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
I don't think we should do it like this unless we can get them in the sidebar. I don't think the links should be in a section at the top of the page like that and Mark is right about aiohq and whitsend links being complicated. so it's probably just as much work to manually do all the links unless someone figures out a solution. Spiderman 18:12, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
I see now how a few of the links could be complicated, but I didn't mean to leave the links in the upper section, I was just testing pictures and links. Erwin Springer [talk] 20:45, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
I found a better way to do the whit's end: Erwin Springer [talk] 21:37, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Albums

just a start of a page to replace the category as we have alot more control over a regular page of how we want it to look. I think that the original tapes series should be merged into the series one like how it is one aiohq. Reddo 19:55, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Sice all of the pages have the templates and categories, we should be able to pull certain elemnts, so we could create a page similar to episodes lists, just with album information. As with merging the orginal albums and later ones, that may be a good idea, I put album names on each of the epieosde pages, so we could have two episode list similar to the Odyssey USA page. Erwin Springer [talk] 20:39, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
I seperated it into types, because it said that there were to many dpl calls or something. I also created an album list template. Erwin Springer [talk] 22:15, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
I think that if we just had the "classic" album be included in the Albums Category, than we could just have that page redirect to the Gold Audio album and just have the album differences thing. God Bless ~ Natedude24~ My Talk

The coolest thing ever

Okay, I wrote an email to Nathan Hoobler, and didn't expect a response at all, but I DID! Also, he wrote:

By the way, you should let someone know that AIOwiki is awesome. We use it at Focus all the time.

How cool is that? Erwin Springer [talk] 22:56, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

Wow, that's so awesome!!! TheAE talk 03:00, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
Wait a minute... this is their content. For what do they need us? That is amazing! Cryin Brian Dern 03:25, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
That's awesome to hear, it's nice to see that we've moved up from "often" to "all the time". As for why they use us, we have things like character intersection, and a place for fans to give episodes their own ratings. We also have a lot of other info available on our site that isn't on the official site (such as albums that are no longer available) however I'm sure that they have all of that info stored somewhere that fans don't have access to Reddo 03:54, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
Always wonderful to get affirmation! *sighs peacefully* If the wiki can help make sure someone doesn't pop up with four brothers when they had three sisters...our work has not been in vain. Rachel Maxwell 14:05, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

More Gadgets

I added two more gadgets one for putting an edit link in the top section and one to turn the skin into a dark theme (which is just a novelty :) Erwin Springer [talk] 22:23, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
