Q & A

I tried to watch the Q & A, but it only watches the changes to the page itself. How can I watch it so that it shows up on my watchlist whenever a new question is asked/answered? Gooey98 ~ (talk) 19:48, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

How do I become an administrator for aiowiki? and how do I contact other users? --AREM Meltsner 15:23, 1 October 2011 (PDT)

Arem Meltsner: The answer to your question is here. RyanCummings 19:34, 1 October 2011 (PDT)

Can I contact other users privately--AREM Meltsner 15:37, 6 October 2011 (PDT)?

You can write on users talk pages, though anyone can see if they were looking.--Isaiah 40:31but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. ~ Jason ~ (talk) 15:47, 6 October 2011 (PDT)

Archie Haggler

Yesterday I noticed that on Archie's page, it says that he's voiced by both Dan Hagen (in the infobox) and Unknown (in the episode list). Also, the episode list returns errors. I investigated, but couldn't figure out the problem. Could someone else check it out? — Eugene [talk] 13:57, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

Songs

I was thinking. You know how there are song pages? Couldn't we connect them in order of how they appear in episodes? And have a category that connects them together too. Just a thought.--Isaiah 40:31but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. ~ Jason ~ (talk) 03:45, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

I like it! I'll try something. --Proverbs 31:30Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. ~ Aria ~ (talk) 18:30, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
I figured something out.--Isaiah 40:31but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. ~ Jason ~ (talk) 02:05, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Generic characters

Should generic characters really get a special character page/mention in the character list? Meaning generic characters such as police officer, Librarian, etc. I figure if we don't know a name, they just fall into the "unknown crowd" right?--Isaiah 40:31but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. ~ Jason ~ (talk) 22:27, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

I think that if they don't have a name, and they don't have any important role in the episode, then they don't need to be mentioned. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 22:35, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
So it's alright to get rid of those pages then/edit out them from the characters lists?--Isaiah 40:31but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. ~ Jason ~ (talk) 23:06, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
my opinion on it is that if we don't know the name or the actor they can be cut Reddo 23:15, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
So like in the case of the police officer on the Mystery of the clock tower page, since there is an acotr there just keep it in the list and keep the page?--Isaiah 40:31but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. ~ Jason ~ (talk) 23:34, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

I think we should keep the police officer in The Mystery of the Clocktower. I also wouldn't go so far as to say "if they don't have an actor, remove the character from the list". Some of the characters listed in episodes don't have actors simply because Focus still has not provided the episode information. For example, in Accidental Dilemma, there is a character named "Romer", who is one of The Whisperer's thugs. Even though he doesn't have an actor, he is as much of a character as Maurice, the other thug, who does have an actor listed. It would be incomplete to list one of the thugs and not the other one. I think this issue should be reconsidered before we go through and start cutting out characters left and right. MarvelousMarvin 09:00, 6 May 2011 (PDT)
As far as cast lists are concerned I can see maybe listing police officer or newscaster as a character if we know the actor, but is it necessary as it's own page? I think it makes more since if we really want it in the cast box to Link through unknown. Because a page on a generic character like newscaster is really unnecessary. --Isaiah 40:31but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. ~ Jason ~ (talk) 19:14, 16 October 2011 (MDT)

upgrade

i upgraded the server again this morning, went a lot smoother than i expected, there's a lot of changes in the new release, let me know if you see anything that's out of place Reddo 11:48, 4 May 2011 (PDT)

just a note this means we now have the new edit tool bar and vector skin that wikipedia has, i'm sure it'll take some time to configure how we like it but it's functional now Reddo 12:45, 4 May 2011 (PDT)

I like the vector skin expect for two things. The Town Hall and Recent Changes is no longer in the left margin so you have to go to special pages to locate them. And the other thing is that the buttons for categories are no longer available when editing. Other than that I like it. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 15:25, 4 May 2011 (PDT)
yeah, those are two of the things that i meant when i said it'll take some time to configure them how we like it, there's a few other minor ones (getting the news/podcast buttons back on the main page for one), I haven't really looked into how to fix them yet as i was busy getting 1.16 and vector working, but now that they are it's time to learn how to tweak them Reddo 16:46, 4 May 2011 (PDT)
Several things. First of all, I like the new vector skin a lot and I'm glad it works and the upgrade to 1.16 was smooth. Okay so now for questions. So the episodes link on the left is automatically expanded which I assume is because it's the first one in the list (which is how it is with most accordions I've written/used) but the toolbox is what should be open by default. And as Wooton said, none of the "navigation" parts are on the left toolbar anymore, which I'm sure you're working on. Mark, you've probably already noticed this by now, but I'm just making sure. I'm also wondering why the vector skin and new edit bar doesn't seem to be default for IP users. Are you waiting to perfect them first? Again, most of these tweaks you've probably noticed, but I figured I'd just cover all my bases. God Bless ~ Nate ~ Talk 19:44, 4 May 2011 (PDT)
Oh and one more thing. Any idea why the edit box (for me) doesn't fill the whole page? God Bless ~ Nate ~ Talk 19:44, 4 May 2011 (PDT)
We also need the news tab on the home page back. And also, the "navigation" links should probably be above all the accordion parts and not be expandable. God Bless ~ Nate ~ Talk 20:19, 4 May 2011 (PDT)
I've done some changes to the sidebar, it's now more like the one at wikipedia and the navigation section is back. The tabs for the news items are now working, they can be found in the arrow on the main page, just like the rest of the actions for a page. The reason that the editor wasn't filling up the whole page is that was where the navigatable TOC is supposed to be, but in this release it's unstable and doesn't always work right, so i turned that off by default for now. I've looked into the category buttons and there's some documentation as to how to add things like that, i'll see what i can do with it tomorrow Reddo 23:54, 4 May 2011 (PDT)
haha, and just like that we've been upgraded again, this time just a security fix from 1.16.4 to 1.16.5. Reddo 00:10, 5 May 2011 (PDT)

I don't see any changes but the navigation thing is up in the left corner instead of down. when I go to edit something, it still has the same thing. --Proverbs 31:30Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. ~ Aria ~ (talk) 00:34, 5 May 2011 (PDT)

the navigation thing is a temp fix, to see the changes you need to go to your preferences, under appearance select "vector" and under editing select "enable enhanced toolbar" it's near the bottom, they're opt in only while we tweak it to our liking, once we get there we'll change it to be the default, if people don't like it they can always make an account and use preference to go back to the way it used to be Reddo 00:40, 5 May 2011 (PDT)
Great job, Reddo! Thanks for all of your hard work. So far, I have only run seen a few problems:
  • I can't edit semi-protected pages anymore. I think this is due to the fact that I have been removed from all user-groups.
  • I can't upload any files- again, a user permissions problem caused by the new system.
  • Edits can't be marked as "minor" in either skin.
But other than those small problems, I think that it's fairly solid. Great job! :D If you would like, I could help with any styling and JavaScript tweaks that need to be done. — Eugene [talk] 11:33, 5 May 2011 (PDT)
I have the same problems too. --Proverbs 31:30Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. ~ Aria ~ (talk) 11:45, 5 May 2011 (PDT)
I have that problem too now, don't know if it's a problem with 16.5 or with some changes dreamhost made, I'll look into it though Reddo 13:52, 5 May 2011 (PDT)
definitely related to something with 1.16, i logged in with reddobot and had full admin permissions, i changed over to vector and new skin and now i can't do those things either with it Reddobot 14:36, 5 May 2011 (PDT)
logging out and in doesn't fix it, neither does a new browser, also reddobot's lost his bot flag... I have no idea what's going on, but for now nobody should try the new skin/editor. I've filed a bug report with the developers to try and get it fixed Reddo 15:06, 5 May 2011 (PDT)
okay, i reverted to 1.16.4 and it seems to be working now, let me know if you see anything weird Reddo 17:11, 5 May 2011 (PDT)
I used the new skin for a while yesterday, and I didn't have any problems. Maybe the problems were only if you were an Admin. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 10:56, 6 May 2011 (PDT)
no, it caused problems for non-admins too. Anyways i think i have it mostly how we want it, the sidebar behaves nicely, the new edit tool bar has the buttons back and there's new/podcast buttons on the main page for creating those item, if there are no complaints i think we should make it the default and see how things go, thoughts? Reddo 15:31, 6 May 2011 (PDT)
I think it looks great! Erwin Springer [talk] 15:09, 9 May 2011 (PDT)

Any idea why the slideshow isn't working? And the stub isn't right, but that's already been talked about. They both seem to be problems with the Vector skin because they work fine with the old one. God Bless ~ Nate ~ Talk 17:56, 9 May 2011 (PDT)

I just protected a page as an IP, so something must be fishy with the user rights system. Erwin Springer [talk] 19:37, 9 May 2011 (PDT)
woa, that's totally not cool, can you email me how you did it? i'd rather you not post it here as then other people could see it. I don't know why the slideshow isn't working, but i don't think it's an issue, it didn't look very good anyways, i'll try to find a new way of making a slideshow. I'll look into the stub thing as well Reddo 20:19, 9 May 2011 (PDT)
okay, i think the protection problem's been fixed, can you try it again an let me know Reddo 23:50, 9 May 2011 (PDT)
slideshow is fixed, along with the collapsible tables Reddo 11:59, 10 May 2011 (PDT)
protected/featured template work now, same with the new stub that was tested on the sandbox page Reddo 13:07, 10 May 2011 (PDT)
if there's no other issues with it, i'll switch over to vector and the new editor tomorrow, let me know if you think there's a reason that this shouldn't happen Reddo 13:13, 10 May 2011 (PDT)
The stub template isn't positioned right if the page shows a redirect. Like here. God Bless ~ Nate ~ Talk 15:52, 10 May 2011 (PDT)
fixed Reddo 17:39, 10 May 2011 (PDT)
okay, i changed the default, i've also noticed that the editing table of contents has started to work, you can turn in on in your preferences Reddo 01:24, 11 May 2011 (PDT)

It looks great, Reddo! Thanks for all of your hard work! :D But I noticed that the stub template still doesn't line-up quite right in either skin. So, could you please change the Monobook CSS to:

div.stub {
    display: block !important;
    position: absolute;
    top: 42px;
    right: 13px;
    z-index: 10;
}

And Vector:

div.stub {
    display: block !important;
    position: absolute;
    top: -3px;
    right: 0;
    z-index: 10;
}

Oh, and I can't find an option to go back to the old editor. Can you add an option for that? If not, it's okay. Thanks!

EDIT: One more things. The new editor doesn't have buttons for any of the following tags: nowiki, redirect, and code. Is there a way that you could add those? Thanks! — Eugene [talk] 06:09, 11 May 2011 (PDT)

CSS changes Check.svg Done God Bless ~ Nate ~ Talk 12:32, 11 May 2011 (PDT)
the old editor can be found by going to your preferences then editing, there's a list of 7 experimental editing tools, turn them all off and you should have the old editor back. at least that's what worked for me, i'll look into adding buttons for the things you mentioned Reddo 13:06, 11 May 2011 (PDT)
okay, i added the code for those buttons, there's just as letters for the icons right now, but Nate said he'd make icons for them Reddo 14:08, 11 May 2011 (PDT)
icons are now inplace, since it's all done with javascript you may need to purge your cache to see it Reddo 15:59, 11 May 2011 (PDT)
Thanks everyone! It looks really great! :D But, I found another major bug. When you're editing a page and press the new cancel button that's on top of the editor box, it publishes the changes you made. I found this when testing on a page called Blh. I didn't mean to create it, just use it to test something in the preview. But when I pressed cancel, it got published. So I tried pressing the cancel button again on an edit that I did want to make, and again it published the changes. I'm sorry to be giving you more work... Hope it's just a quick fix. Thanks! — Eugene [talk] 07:56, 12 May 2011 (PDT)
If you want to see the new icons, but don't want to purge your cache, I believe you can just change you settings to the old edit toolbar, and then change them back again. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 09:44, 12 May 2011 (PDT)
thanks for finding the cancel bug there, i turned that button off by default now Reddo 10:08, 12 May 2011 (PDT)
How come we have the Show Preview and Show changes at both the top and bottom of the edit screen now? Why aren't they either just at the top or just at the bottom? The one at the bottom places the edit screen just below the preview, while the one at the top doesn't, since you can just click wikitext again. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 11:14, 12 May 2011 (PDT)

Spoiler Template

The spoiler template's not working right. It just shows the template above the page but doesn't have a show/hide button, and the page is shown. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 09:29, 7 May 2011 (PDT)

On which page? Erwin Springer [talk] 15:08, 9 May 2011 (PDT)
I guess it's a bug with the upgrade, because normally it works fine, but when I use the Vector skin, it does it on every page that the template is on.
yeah, it's something to do with the vector skin, it's the reason that i didn't change the default skin this weekend, it still works for the default skin, i haven't had time to look into it yet, I tried upgrading the code and testing it on my personal vector.js and css but it didn't work and i've been too busy to check into it more, i do know however that in the next upgrade (hopefully it'll be out this month) it will be built in and we won't need to manage it ourself Reddo 17:23, 9 May 2011 (PDT)
Check.svg Done fixed, it was failing due to a problem that vector had with one of our scripts Reddo 11:56, 10 May 2011 (PDT)

Monthly Poll

Do we still have a monthly poll? Adventures inodysseylego ~ (talk) ~ (Guestbook) 07:51, 18 May 2011 (PDT)

I was wondering that myself. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 09:17, 18 May 2011 (PDT)
yeah, i just was busy with school and trying to get the wiki unhacked and it slipped my mind so april/may got combined, i have ideas for the next 3 already, just waiting for june 1 to come Reddo 10:32, 18 May 2011 (PDT)
It's ok. I just found that there was none the other day. I totally know about school. It's really hard to keep up with school and all the extracurricular activities that you want to do. Adventures inodysseylego ~ (talk) ~ (Guestbook) 08:44, 21 May 2011 (PDT)

Character Page Standards

I am improving some character pages and some of the pages say not to remove a stub tag until the proper standards are met. Does someone know what the proper standards are? If so, could you please answer right here. Thanks! RyanCummings 14:41, 27 May 2011 (PDT)

I don't think there really are any standards that we've set for when that notice should be remove, just as long as we have some info about them other than an episode list Reddo 18:46, 27 May 2011 (PDT)
Thanks Reddo! RyanCummings 19:16, 27 May 2011 (PDT)

Podcasts

I've started work on making pages for episodes of the official podcast, it will allow us to do some things like add a podcast section to cast/crew pages, get podcast links easier and it will help populate the data for a special project that i've been working on, I started by doing 120 and 121 the format should be fairly easy to figure out from there and apply to the other episodes, let me know if you have any questions Reddo 19:19, 27 May 2011 (PDT)

The infobox misspells Summary as Summery. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 20:33, 27 May 2011 (PDT)
Do we write 00 before episode numbers? Like 001 instead of 1? Or 039 instead of 39? Gooey98 ~ (talk) 20:42, 27 May 2011 (PDT)
thanks i've fixed the spelling error, and just 1 or 39 is how it's supposed to be, it's to generate the url for the podcast, there's a few where the id is something else and not a number, when that happens id is the something else (like "peaceonearth") and the "num" value is the number of the podcast sometimes we'll have to do something like 6.5 for it though, but that's not a common occurrence Reddo 21:38, 27 May 2011 (PDT)
So are free episodes not numbers? If not, why are some not a number? Gooey98 ~ (talk) 08:12, 28 May 2011 (PDT)
Hey, do you think we should have the old podcast artwork for the old episodes? Gooey98 ~ (talk) 09:16, 28 May 2011 (PDT)
Yeah, I think adding in the old art for older podcasts would be a good idea, I've added a new parameter for the image. and it seems like free episodes are usually unnumbered although once in a while they are numbered, it doesn't make the most sense the way they did it but we'll have to try and make the best of it Reddo 19:06, 28 May 2011 (PDT)

I've added another parameter to the Podcast Infobox. If a podcast includes a free Odyssey episode, just add the tag ep and the episode name.

One other thing I've been thinking about is somehow connecting podcast episodes that have an interview with the corresponding interview page. If we want to include this, should we put another tag in the infobox? Thoughts?

Edit: By the way, do we have a plan for video podcasts yet? Thanks! — Eugene [talk] 14:21, 6 June 2011 (PDT)

Yeah, I've been thinking that it would be good to link it to the interviews somehow but haven't come up with anything yet. as for the video I'm sure i can get a simple player working to embed on the page, I've mostly been concentrating on the audio player that I've been working on for the wiki where you can listen to radio episodes, free episodes and podcasts Reddo 22:21, 6 June 2011 (PDT)
Sounds good! Thanks for your hard work! Oh, and all of the 2006, 2007, and 2011 podcasts have been added. We just have to add the 2008, 2009, and 2010 podcasts. Only about 80 more episodes to go! — Eugene [talk] 13:53, 7 June 2011 (PDT)

I've noticed that most of the episodes have the new logo. As you know, the new logo is set by default, and no parameter for the logo shows up on the template when you select the it will be a podcast. Do you think you could add a visible parameter for that, so people will add it in? Gooey98 ~ (talk) 15:13, 7 June 2011 (PDT)

Since we are adding the old podcasts, and we know about the parameter, I think that it's best that we leave it out of the pre-load template. Because other users will probably only add new podcasts, not past ones. But that's just my opinion... — Eugene [talk] 17:02, 7 June 2011 (PDT)
thanks for the hard work on adding all the episodes, I've been busy with overtime at work this week and haven't been able to help out. The data is all feeding into my player nicely, one small change though is to not put images in the summary part as stripping out wiki text and leaving only the stuff we want, but putting them in the transcript part is fine, I moved the existing ones so it all works good now.
What if we add a parameter to the preload template but set it to be the new logo by default? Reddo 19:19, 9 June 2011 (PDT)
Yeah, that's great. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 12:57, 10 June 2011 (PDT)
Could someone who has the ability to delete please move Official Podcast 56.5 to Official Podcast 57, and the following three pages up one number? Thanks! — Eugene [talk] 22:54, 13 June 2011 (PDT)
OK, I moved them all up, now 56.5 just needs to be deleted. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 15:01, 14 June 2011 (PDT)

Could somebody add links to the podcasts to the templates Template:2006 Podcasts and all the other ones? Gooey98 ~ (talk) 15:06, 14 June 2011 (PDT)

I wouldn't worry about that right now, soon (maybe thursday) I'll change it so those templates are more live the season page and we won't have to update those templates everytime Reddo 16:25, 14 June 2011 (PDT)

Check.svg Done I have finished adding all of the 2009 podcasts, leaving only the 2010 podcasts to do. There are a little less than 30 left! Yay! — Eugene [talk] 19:14, 2 July 2011 (PDT)

I have just finished adding the 100th podcast! Now there are only 11 more episodes to go! Yahoo! — Eugene [talk] 21:26, 2 July 2011 (PDT)
wow, you really went to town there, here's something I made that uses all the podcast data from the wiki audio player Reddo 21:29, 2 July 2011 (PDT)
Yeah, I really wanted to get it all done ASAP. And now...it's all Check.svg Done! Every podcast has been added to the wiki!! ...Except for the two episodes that were removed by Focus. I was wondering if we should add those but update the template so we can show that they are unreleased? In the meantime, I've made the next/previous links skip those two episodes.
The webplayer looks awesome! There are a few minor tweaks that I would make in the design, and it sometimes freezes when I leave it playing for a few episodes, but overall- I really like it! It's very well done. I made something similar for the Too (ToO TV) last year, but I haven't been able to finish it yet. Yours is neat because it updates using the data from the wiki.
Anyway, thanks for sharing! And thanks to everyone who has helped to create all of the podcast pages! :D — Eugene [talk] 12:30, 3 July 2011 (PDT)

Wow, amazing job Eugene! Thank you very much for completing this very, very large task! Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 20:57, 6 July 2011 (PDT)

The Green Ring Conspiracy

Now that The Green Ring Conspiracy has finished airing, can we remove the spoiler alert? Gooey98 ~ (talk) 08:10, 28 May 2011 (PDT)

We may be able to do that soon. However, there might be people out there who haven't gotten the chance to listen to the entire GRC and would have it spoiled for them if they accidentally happened upon the information. I would suggest waiting from a month to 90 days. RyanCummings 09:16, 28 May 2011 (PDT)
I disagree. The album has been aired and the spoilers should be removed. If people haven't heard it or missed it, too bad. --Proverbs 31:30Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. ~ Aria ~ (talk) 11:10, 28 May 2011 (PDT)
the only pages that still had the spoiler warning were Album 53, Buck Oliver, and green ring, I've removed them all now, this came up a while ago about should we put the warning on all blackgaard pages, novacom pages, things about eugene and his family, and we decided that as soon as it's aired on the radio and out on CD the spoiler warning should be removed Reddo 12:46, 28 May 2011 (PDT)

Check.svg Done and Check.svg Done I didn't actually know it was possible to make the P capital, I know in 1.15 we couldn't but I guess they finally got around to fixing that Reddo 12:45, 1 June 2011 (PDT)

The Stiletto‎

So we need real information on the Stiletto, not just to redirect it to Jason's page. Wasn't he mentioned in several episodes prior to 53? Either way, he's a character on his own, even if he's actually Jason. If we didn't want a whole article dedicated to him, which is understandable, then we should at least have a paragraph for him on Jason's page. If somebody could tell me when he's been mentioned I could go to those episodes and work on a nice description; I just don't have time to go digging through episodes listening for it. I've never heard of him before 53. Was he just some bad guy that was mentioned in a few episodes? Gooey98 ~ (talk) 15:19, 3 June 2011 (PDT)
I'm not sure. I thought I remembered hearing something about him when Grady was in the show. So like 49 maybe? I could be wrong I just thought we knew about him before 53
The only thing I can think of is The Whisperer. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 15:27, 3 June 2011 (PDT)
Yeah, I have no recollection of him being mentioned before 53 Reddo 16:05, 3 June 2011 (PDT)
You may be thinking of the people at the casino that wanted money from Mr. McKay. I am pretty sure he was first mentioned in 53. I would be happy to help with that. I will go and add some info to that right now. RyanCummings 19:16, 3 June 2011 (PDT)

Quotes problems

Every time I try to add new quotes to episodes, it all works out but then at the bottom of the page in the categories section, it shows in red lettering, "Episodes with one quote by person.". Is that normal or is there a way to change that? RyanCummings 20:34, 7 June 2011 (PDT)

That's normal! The quotes template creates a category, so we can use quotes on other pages, such as the Main Page, or on character pages. Erwin Springer [talk] 15:37, 9 June 2011 (PDT)

Blog

you know i think you guys should update the blog more. you can tell me why you don't or start updating it more. The reason people go back to a site is if there something new every few day not just once a week.

When you're making a new section, click 'Add Topic' instead of 'Edit'. By the blog, do you mean the news feed? We only update that when there's some news. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 13:49, 12 June 2011 (PDT)
Both sides of this arguement have valid points. Personally, I think that if their is no news, we should just make it up. By "make it up", I mean we should update the outside world on what project(s) the editors are working at that moment. MarvelousMarvin 13:07, 16 June 2011 (PDT)
Like say, "Right now we're working on getting all of the official podcast pages up"? Gooey98 ~ (talk) 13:47, 16 June 2011 (PDT)

Adding Information

Is it okay to add info and facts to episodes if we take it from the Official Guide to Odyssey. I mean, would it be like stealing money from the writers if people can get the info for free here? RyanCummings 13:53, 18 June 2011 (PDT)

Absolutely! We need a whole lot more information here. Make sure you're putting it in your own words though God Bless ~ Nate ~ Talk 16:10, 18 June 2011 (PDT)
We probably shouldn't put all of the behind-the-scenes tidbits in there though, right? Gooey98 ~ (talk) 16:52, 18 June 2011 (PDT)
Well, it might depend on the information. For example, we could put info directly concerning the episode. Like saying that one episode has a background sound that comes from another episode. But we don't put information like talking about experiences that happened during the recording or that the script went through several changes before final draft. Does that sound like a good rule? RyanCummings 18:14, 18 June 2011 (PDT)
Yeah, that makes sense to me. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 18:49, 18 June 2011 (PDT)
Sure you can include that kind of information too! The Notes section is perfect for stuff like that God Bless ~ Nate ~ Talk 23:52, 18 June 2011 (PDT)

News Template

On the Main Page, is it okay to add our own News to the News template? For example, can we add info from other AIO websites like The Odyssey Scoop or the Odyssey Blogcast as long as it has to do with AIO? RyanCummings 14:00, 18 June 2011 (PDT)

Yeah go for it. Just don't quote it. God Bless ~ Nate ~ Talk 16:09, 18 June 2011 (PDT)

I just got the exact same message as Aria on the Official Adventures in Odyssey Podcast page. It looks like it couldn't load in the CSS and sidebar/tabs because it just shows the page content then the footer. If you want a screenshot, I could upload one for you.

Edit: Just reloaded the page and now the message is gone. Is it perhaps caused by some sort of caching error? — Eugene [talk] 17:12, 26 June 2011 (PDT)

hmm you were still getting it? you shouldn't be, I tracked the error down to an extension, I tried upgrading to 1.17.0 on the weekend and it broke the dpl extension, so for the time being I reverted us back to 1.16.5 until I can get this fixed. John Whittaker

Did you know that John Whittaker had 2 voices through the years? He's had Hal Smith, and Paul Mckuster.

Actually, Whit's now on his third voice. He's had Hal Smith, Paul Herlinger, and now Andre Stojka. Please only comment on general changes to the wiki in the town hall, this page is not appropriate for facts like that. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 17:46, 3 July 2011 (PDT)

iTunes

I don't think iTunes carries AIO anymore. Probably need to delete the links on the episode pages. Scott --Scott 11:13, 6 July 2011 (PDT)

Yeah, you're right. Somebody was doing something about that, but I don't remember what. Maybe we're keeping them just in case iTunes brings them back. Gooey98 ~ (talk) 13:18, 6 July 2011 (PDT)
Yes, it was discussed to keep them in case iTunes brought the episodes back. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 20:54, 6 July 2011 (PDT)
OK, I guess I should have done a search. Thanks for the info. --Scott 10:56, 8 July 2011 (PDT)
I highly doubt that iTunes will carry Adventures in Odyssey anymore. iTunes had the episodes courtesy of Audible.com, and Audible no longer has AIO either. Focus on the Family is pushing people to buy the much higher quality, cheaper episodes via their AIO download store. God Bless ~ Nate ~ Talk 14:51, 8 July 2011 (PDT)

We will have to wait on Reddo's response but if they do get taken down, a bot (I think) could very easily do this. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 20:32, 8 July 2011 (PDT)

Sorry I haven't been around lately (my laptop died), I think that we should remove the links from all the templates but still leave the id's on the page themselves, that way no one looking at the site will see the links but they're still easy to get back Reddo 00:03, 10 July 2011 (PDT)
Exactly what I was thinking. God Bless ~ Nate ~ Talk 22:01, 10 July 2011 (PDT)

Comments Styling

I've noticed that in the comments section there are small little dots hanging around. They've been driving me nuts! But I've found a way to get rid of them to clean up the look. Someone with access to the CSS will have to add the following code to do that.

#disqus_thread ul {
    list-style: none;
}

Thanks! — Eugene [talk] 11:27, 27 July 2011 (PDT)

Thanks i've added the code for it Reddo 20:48, 3 August 2011 (PDT)

Help Wanted on Jonathan Park Wiki

I'm currently working on the new Jonathan Park Wiki, a wiki for another children's radio drama. Many templates and info boxes need to be created. All contributions are appreciated! http://jonathanpark.wikinet.org Peachey Keen 08:59, 1 August 2011 (PDT)

Album Templates

I noticed that there are templates for albums 44-53, and was wondering if there was any plan to continue that through out the rest of the albums.
I was also wondering if The green ring Conspiracy should get a separate template from the album one, or if all the info such as protagonists, antagonists, and things like that should just be in the album one. I was thinking maybe a separate one so it'd be easier to tell which characters were exclusively new in the album. --Isaiah 40:31but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. News+Podcast tabs

The "News" tab and "Podcast" tab are gone from the main page. Could somebody please fix this? Gooey98 ~ (talk) 16:58, 10 August 2011 (PDT)

that happened due to the way javascript is served in MW 1.17 (supposed to be faster) I've fixed it but you may need to purged your cache to see it Reddo 18:45, 10 August 2011 (PDT)

Borders of pictures

When you're getting a character image from an album image, I can't figure out how to make the border of the picture stay with the border of the character. There's always a white space around them. How can I do this??Gooey98 ~ (talk) 13:56, 19 August 2011 (PDT)

Album 54

Are we allowed to add information and quotes to the album 54 episodes now that the digital download is out or do we need to wait until it has reached its final release? What are the rules in this area? RyanCummings 15:04, 19 August 2011 (PDT)

For 53, quotes were allowed once the downloads were available. As far as I know it's the same for 54. Not positive though...--Isaiah 40:31but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. ~ Jason ~ (talk) 15:23, 19 August 2011 (PDT)
we can add anything we want, for 53 Nathan requested some thing be kept quiet to keep up the suspense, but since this isn't a saga we can post all info now Reddo 18:31, 19 August 2011 (PDT)

Character Images

I have created a new template and organizational system to help us keep track of the character images. The template is called Template:Character Image. You can see an example of it's usage on the file File:Aiogroup.gif. The template simply adds it to categories based upon the characters that are in the image. It also adds a list of characters in the image on the file page. If we wanted to, we could also add tags to include data about who illustrated the image, what year it was created, etc. Thoughts?

Oh, and I'll be creating a similar template for crew images, too. And in the near future, I'll start the enormous task of re-naming character and crew images to follow the standard Firstnamelastname-number.png naming scheme. — Eugene [talk] 22:21, 2 September 2011 (PDT)

thanks for your hard work on this, it's so much better than what we had, if you need a hand with anything that doesn't take a lot of time let me know, otherwise I'll be continuing the cast/crew/character episodes section upgrades Reddo 22:15, 6 September 2011 (PDT)

Uncommon Wanted Categories Requests

I noticed that we are getting some unusual wanted category requests. It starts with Characters voiced by Episodes with (character name) voiced by (Actor). I'm not sure why?

EX: Characters voiced by Episodes with Monty Whittaker-Dowd voiced by Chad Reisser

P.S. I noticed we have a lot of other requests and I will be glad to edit all of them as soon as you get a category to put them in.

Thanks!!!

Wanted Pages

There are currently 818 wanted pages: many include talk pages on templates, characters mention but not heard from, and must of all really weird links (some to old archives and others I can't find how it links to that page). I'm going to do my best and try to clean up some of them but is it okay if I unlink some the wanted pages on old archives. I will not be deleting the words only the link, is that okay? Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 19:34, 29 October 2011 (MDT)

yeah unlinking them is fine, I used to do that once upon a time, it helps cut down on all the clutter of the page so we can focus on what pages really need to be made Reddo 09:36, 4 November 2011 (MDT)

Update

Hey guys, so I've been really busy lately, thus having very little time to work on the wiki. I'm not gone, I do still check it almost every day, just no time or need to edit; I may be around more on and off in the coming days.

Anyway, as you probably noticed, I kicked off the logo contest for this year, as it was getting rather late compared to the starting time of last year. Hopefully we can get enough publicity to get a good number of entries before the submission deadline which I put at December 10. We'll see how it goes. If anybody has ideas for the contest publicity or its rules, I'm completely open and you can post them below.

It's my goal to redesign the home page before the beginning of next year to go along with the new logo. The current layout and design has gotten rather stale, as it's been there for several years now since Spiderman redesigned it last.

As soon as we open up the new home page design and logo, I hope to also finally put up the Writing Contest which I thought of a while ago but didn't get around to actually starting. If you want, you can take a look at that. Again, if you have any ideas, you can post them below. I'm still unsure of how judging is going to work, so ideas for that would be much appreciated!

Audio Player/New Episode

Whenever a new episode comes out, I can listen to all of the episodes on the audio player accept for the one that just came out.can someone fix that? --AREM Meltsner 08:10, 26 November 2011 (MST)

No we can't fix that, we don't host the files ourselves instead we just stream the files from fotf servers, they recently changed the location of their files which I updated out player to handle, but as for why you can't listen to today's episode is that they didn't upload it, so really there's nothing we can do, the problem is on FOTF's side of things, not ours Reddo 09:03, 26 November 2011 (MST)

On the Eugene Meltsner page, on the "episodes including this character" section, it says "All (235) · John Charles Morris (2006) · Shane Baumel (2007) · [[javascript:changeTab(3)|Will Ryan (Template:Infobox Episode Information first last ep year.default-Present)]]" .
