Discussion Questions

  1. If the Inspiration Station was a good invention, why did it have a negative effect on Connie?
  2. How did Mortimer inspire Matthew?
  3. Connie learned how much she’s matured. Can you think of ways that you’ve grown over the past few years?
    • What things have you learned? What events have changed you?

Notes

Trivia
  • The callers at the end of this episode were real fans of Adventures in Odyssey. During the summer of 2009, Adventures in Odyssey hosted a contest, asking its fans to send in 20 second clips of themselves answering the question, "How are you inspired by Connie Kendall?" The Odyssey team received well over 400 clips and were able to include portions from the top twenty of them in the final scenes of this episode when listeners of Candid Conversations with Connie call in to tell Connie how she inspires them. You can hear some of the clips that didn't make it into the show in this podcast.
  • Mortimer tells Matthew a story about when a young Whit made his town’s clock run backwards. This led Whit to wonder what it would be like if you really could experience the past, and eventually, the creation of the Imagination Station.

Quotes

John Whittaker: I understand if you're a little skittish about something new.
Matthew Parker: I'm not skittish — even if I knew what that meant.

Connie Kendall: I’m trying to describe how I feel.
Eugene Meltsner: Has that ever been a problem for you before?!

Connie Kendall: A lot of you have been asking about my recent adventure in Whit’s new invention. Ok, well, not a lot of you. Some of you. A few. Two or three. OK, no one actually asked me about it, but I want to talk about it anyway, cause it was really amazing.

Eugene Meltsner: Greeting and salutations, listeners. I suggest we go to the phone lines where you should call in to discuss the uh... the uh... little dramatic vignette we just performed for your uh... edification and uh, perhaps mystification. I believe we have a caller on line one. <speaks under his breath> Oh, please let there be a caller on line one.

Mortimer: I've got 3,456,270,496 rows of books, all alphabetized and numerically ordered to take care of.

Matthew Parker: I know, I know: don’t tinker around with stuff if you haven’t asked permission first.
Mortimer: Exactly, my boy. You’ve got perspict... er... perspir... perspaper... uh, you’re smart.

John Whittaker: We all aspire to be better than we are. And it hurts to realize that we’re not there yet. We’ve got a long way to go.

John Whittaker: There are places and times to seek inspiration, where we feel like we’re close to God and we can get a glimpse of what he can do in us. But every one of us has to come down for the mountain where the real work takes place; where He molds and shapes us.
