Mabel Gadget Javascript Not Saving

Scientific Guy, as it seems you have access to the background of the wiki, I thought I would bring this up to you. I tried adding a line of code to the MediaWiki:Gadget-Mabel.js. The line of code would have allowed Mabel to automatically create the mention categories. I have editing this page in the past (2014); however, whenever I click save I just get redirected to Gadget-Mabel.js without my edit being saved. No error messages. I found this discussion on mediawiki.org. The second paragraph of that link describes my problem.

P.S. I will probably not be around much as I am still in school. I just had a short amount of time between midterms and my spring break.

Thank you, I was able to save it now. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 20:12, 26 March 2018 (MDT)

Quotes Template

Scientific Guy, I attempted (see: Template:Sandbox quotes and Template:Sandbox infobox quotes) and miserably failed to create a speaker_show option for the quotes character. I was attempting to model it off the Cast infobox, so we could stop using {{!}}. I would appreciate any help, but not rush. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 15:42, 7 March 2018 (MST)

As long as you are okay with it then I am too. I just thought at one point way back there was a discussion about them not being as good as a second field. That's why the Cast infobox has Character_show, but if you think it's fine, that is good enough for me. Thanks for keeping the wiki running! Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 19:39, 8 March 2018 (MST)
Cool, gotcha! I say leave it then. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 08:26, 10 March 2018 (MST)

Mentioned Characters

Scientific Guy, I missed the whole addition of the mentioned characters (which is a great addition, I might add), but is there some sort of format to creating character pages for those characters that were mentioned but never appeared? (i.e. Jeremy Price Is there some sort of a mentioned character infobox? Is that in the works?

PS: I appreciate all the work you have been putting into the wiki, I forgot how much I enjoyed being around here.

Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 19:47, 26 March 2018 (MDT)

The problem is that Charlotte Knox has appeared in an episode, thus the infobox works. For a character that has never appeared, the infobox breaks. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 20:06, 26 March 2018 (MDT)
See Jeremy Price as an example. Or did you mean just create it as a normal article without the infobox? Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 20:07, 26 March 2018 (MDT)
That's okay, I just didn't know if there was already a format in place. Once I graduate in May, I hope to be around more for a bit. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 20:12, 26 March 2018 (MDT)

UPDATE: So today I added the number of time a character has been mentioned and the first/last episode that mentions a character to the Template:Infobox Character Information. I was also thinking of instead of voiced by, mentioned characters could have a mentioned by; however, I was struggling to figure out how the categories, Actors who have voiced CHARACTER, were being generated. Do you think we should include a mentioned by section (perhaps collapsable) if so any tips on how to generate a Characters who have mentioned CHARACTER NAME category?

P.S. I created an episodes with mention of CHARACTER by CHARACTER category, but I am not sure that it will be helpful. Also, see Mayor Perkins for the new look of the infobox for characters that have only been mentioned.

Re: Things to Do, Part 2

Lol, I consider you the De Facto leader because you have been consistent here during Reddo's absence and have started major projects in guiding the AIO Wiki. On the other hand, I just do a lot of routine edits, that rack up an edit count, but aren't as meaningful.

I will add those to my To Do list. I am not sure how active I will be in April, but I'll definitely be back in May once I graduate. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 21:16, 30 March 2018 (MDT)

So, in the process of fulfilling those two duties, I came across a few other inaccuracies and expanded my checklist. When going through the episodes Post-AIOC, I am checking to make sure Odyssey Scoop and Official Links are included, I am adding promos (from Odyssey Scoop) that are missing, I am deleting album_image from Club episodes and I am adding na to sample or promo, if applicable. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 21:44, 31 March 2018 (MDT)
If they are supposed to be added automatically, then they aren't working properly. I converted A Big Commitment back to show you. Odyssey Scoop shows but it's not a clickable link. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 20:11, 1 April 2018 (MDT)
Ah, okay, I have noticed funky stuff like that with the Staff Infobox. I will just change my approach to deleting the ods = from the episodes not displaying the link correctly. Thanks! Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 20:52, 1 April 2018 (MDT)

Check.svg Done As far as I know all of the promos and samples should have na if truly unavailable. Additionally, I added about 30 new promos from Odyssey Scoop. I do know for sure the album_image was removed from all of the AIOC episodes. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 20:38, 6 April 2018 (MDT)

So, I would say create a spot for promo2 in the episode template and add a new player. For editing standards, maybe make the Odyssey Scoop promo always as promo = unless unavailable. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 12:35, 7 April 2018 (MDT)

How do I change my signature to a different color? AIO Addict (talk) 18:45, 12 April 2018 (MDT)

There seems to be a slight edit war going on here over this post. First, Scientific Guy, I responded to AIO Addict's question on his/her talk page because they posted the help template. If you have any input, go ahead and include it. Secondly, AIO Addict, it's okay to leave an answered question on someone's talk page, you don't have to delete it once answered. The question may be useful for someone else or get someone else's opinion (Scientific Guy in this case). Thirdly, Conniekendall fan and AIO Addict before engaging in repeated edits of undoing and redoing each other's edits communicate with one another on your respective talk pages. Repeatedly doing the same thing doesn't accomplish anything. Cheers! Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 23:09, 14 April 2018 (MDT)

Edit wars shouldn't have to happen on discussion pages. Generally, don't delete (or change) anything on talk pages unless it's your own talk page and you're archiving it. Hope it's cleared up! Scientific Guy (talk / AIOC Episode Timeline) 13:03, 15 April 2018 (MDT)

Hank's Owner and Boy

I just created a character page intitled Hank's Owner and despite having an actor and appearing in an episode, the infobox does not show anything. Is this a cache problem or an apostrophe problem? Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 22:24, 12 April 2018 (MDT)

Also, Boy (a) shows an unknown actor in the character appearances template despite having a known actor. Is this the error you were referring to before? For whatever reason Category:Actors who have voiced Boy (a) is not populating any actors, which is why I think it is breaking. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 22:28, 12 April 2018 (MDT)
I did notice on Friday that Boy (a) was working properly and I think it just took awhile for the templates/wiki to update and notice the category. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 23:04, 14 April 2018 (MDT)

Categories Not Updating

Lately, as I have been creating new characters, I have noticed a delay in the population of the Actors who have voiced categories. They show up on the actor's page (see: Bob Luttrell), but the categories are shown as empty (see: Category:Actors who have voiced Dock Worker (a). I found an article about Mediawiki 1.7 having this problem. I did use the query URL suggested and noticed that there was 2 jobs waiting. Is that the cause? I know purging different pages doesn't fix it either.

P.S. I also included a question under the Mentioned Characters section that has to do with Actors who have voiced, but for Characters who have voiced. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 11:00, 28 April 2018 (MDT)

Re: Questions

I also realized today while adding a couple of mentions, that technically all characters in an episode could mention a character. I also agree that it wouldn't make sense to put them in the Infobox, because that could get massive for some characters. Do you still like the idea of having the number of times mentioned and the episodes they are mentioned in? Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 15:55, 28 April 2018 (MDT)

I didn't know if you had any access to the database side of things because there were some people saying that those jobs from the URL were ones that need ran; however, you have to SSH into the server to change things. Stop Wooton' Around (talk) 15:55, 28 April 2018 (MDT)

Sorry for not getting back to you on this sooner. (I was not ignoring you, really.) At this point I don't care who makes the final logo. You still have this as your final? I still think the characters are a bit too blurry. Also any reason you are changing the "wiki" text's gradient? Aiow 15:07, 27 May 2018 (MDT)

OK so I thought Connie's head was normal, will fix that. Will change Eugene's vest (I hear he has a whole chest of vests). Can make a version with the house movements fonts (I'm going from this page). Personally I think it is a bit too tall. (https://i.stack.imgur.com/6Nqmu.png) Don't know about changing Eugene's skin shading, but will see. Aiow 18:44, 29 May 2018 (MDT)
Here are the edited logos: File:Logo_Ravie.png and File:Logo_House.png. I changed Eugene's skin (I think it looks better) and his vest. Fixed Connie. and made the different font version. Aiow 22:12, 30 May 2018 (MDT)
I too like the original font. Hmm. I must of put a already scaled image of Connie back in there, because I did add a new image of her back in. After changing her, I think her head looks too wide. Yes that is the original size. File:Logo_Connie_revision.png vs File:Logo_Ravie.png. When you compare her head to Eugene and whit, I think the scaled one fits better. Anyway let me know which you prefer, so I can make the small (tiny) size that will actually get used on the site as the logo. Aiow 08:18, 4 June 2018 (MDT)
Good work spotting that error in the logo. (Not sure how you even saw that.) I know you just made a category and all, but you could delete some of the wip logo images. I'll clean up the psd a bit then upload that too. Thanks for keeping after me on this it turned out good. Aiow 17:28, 23 June 2018 (MDT)

This looks good as is. Per my recollection and a brief search for "parental warning" here on the wiki, the parental warnings seem be to all over the place, offering warnings about mature content, high emotions, intensity, etc. — i.e., not necessarily due to the episode being "about" a certain topic. The warnings also don't always specify a recommended age range. Based on this I think manually entering the parental warnings in their entirety would be better than trying to use a shorthand formatting method. Maybe simply transcribing the warning message in the episode intro would be easiest. Crnel (talk) 10:21, 23 July 2018 (MDT)

Error with the episode information box

So after adding A Predicament of Biblical Proportions to the schedule, I wondered what that would do to the episode page. First off both it and The Drop Box and All By Myself say "and originally aired on" instead of "and was originally released on." I can understand how not having an air date messes up "A Predicament of Biblical Proportions", but am at a loss as to why the other two would be that way.

Second thing, do you think it would be possible to add the air date(s) of any club episodes that do air? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think "A Predicament of Biblical Proportions" is the first to actually air. Aiow 05:43, 21 August 2018 (MDT)

Related question... Technically every episode now has a release date and an air date, since they release episodes on the club before they air on the radio. Maybe it would be a good idea to include both dates in the episode information template? Harlow (talk) 19:14, 23 August 2018 (MDT)
Yah custom leads sounds good. WAY too much work to try to make that fit into the system. At least until they air more of the club episodes (if ever), doing the rare exceptions manually will be fine. Still wondering about the air date in the info box. Have not given it too much thought. Aiow 22:00, 23 August 2018 (MDT)
I hope no one minds my joining in. I like the idea of both club date and air date. I myself have been thinking about it. It would help clarify at times. New Cast Box Error

Hey, I'm starting to use the new cast template as I listen to episodes, and I came across a problem. In #619: “A New Era, Part 1”, I used the S8=Eugene Meltsner (young) to have it show that instead of Eugene Meltsner, and it works for the Relative Importance part of the chart, but not the chronological order part--it shows up as a nonexistent page. Is there a part of the code I'm missing? Thanks! Harlow (talk) 14:34, 30 August 2018 (MDT)

I've only done six episodes: The Other Side of the Glass and A New Era. I'll wait to edit more until we've come to a group decision! Thanks! Harlow (talk) 12:47, 31 August 2018 (MDT)

Help with a project

Is there a way to organize a live list of top Odyssey episodes based on user vote? I haven't found this, and I would try to set one up on my profile but I'm still a bit inexperienced with HTML etc. I thought of creating a spreadsheet but I'd rather create something with live updates and since you worked with the coding to a degree I thought you could help me set it up. It wouldn't have to be an official wikipage, it could be a sandbox or something. Thanks!! CartoonNostalgia (talk) 16:59, 21 October 2018 (MDT)

Some questions

1) Can we expect info about Album 67 around January (because album titles usually show up about nine months before the release)?

2) Can we create pages about our own created content as attachments to our pages (that is, if I created, for instance, a radio drama, could I create a full directory of episodes at User:CartoonNostalgia/Hypothetical Drama, as well as pages for the episodes at User:CartoonNostalgia/Hypothetical Drama/Hypothetical Episode?). I noticed you've create pages like this for Iliad House, but that was a drama created by Phil Lollar, not a personal endeavor that is unimportant to the Wiki's cause. I legitimately have no plans to do anything like this currently, but I was interested in the idea.

3) How opinionated should I allow the Wiki to be? I'm fine with leaving pro-christian bias on the Wiki, but is there a simple guide to what opinions I should allow to stay and which I should remove?

4) How much conflict-of-interest info is too much? For instance, I added chess-related info to the pages for Album 30 and Charlotte, because I'm a professional chess player, but is pointing out intricate details based on conflict-of-interest an accepted practice? I feel while the details I added were relevant, they may have been unnecessary.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post... please take as much time as you'd like to answer!

Rydell books

Some more details:

  1. Planet Nowhere has, as far as I can tell, never been published in print form. In fact, it seems such an odd choice that I feel it was only selected because a) it was a graphic novel, or b) it was a favorite of Locke's. I personally feel the latter is likely as Locke is a graphic designer and he made the image with the books.
  2. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is the correct book in my opinion. I found two editions with the T H E spacing, although I can't seem to find one with the exact same lettering- it's possible Locke took some artistic liberty. Also, the position of the "O" on the cover is peculiar.

New Project

Hey man! Hybrid Cast looks terrific - I added a cast member to #661: “When You're Right, You're Right” and had intended to use it before I remembered that I had no idea in what order the characters appeared, so I'll have to delve into that as I re-listen to episodes. As for new projects, an automated New Episode sounds like a terrific idea, though one I would be very little help with since the sort of coding you do for that sort of thing is quite a bit above my head. If there is anything I can do on it I'd be glad to help. Beyond that I still really liked the idea about having an interactive map with locations where episodes were known to have occurred - where you could click on the state (or country) and it would show a list of episodes that occurred there. Not sure how practical of a project that would be but I have come back to it mentally a few times. I love it when we develop features that aren't available anywhere else. What are your thoughts? Relative importance

I haven't really been keeping up with HC, so are there any used methods to decide how relevant a characters is, like amount of lines? I'm thinking of adding hybrid to a few episodes and wanted your input. Otherwise I'll just place them based on how important I think they are to the episode. Cartoon Nostalgia 05:22, 10 November 2018 (MST)

Never mind. You just base it on the old arrangement. I can't believe I didn't catch that earlier, for some reason I didn't think about looking in difference between revisions. Cartoon Nostalgia 05:48, 10 November 2018 (MST)
Not an expert on this by any means but I would be wary of just using past revisions - some of them were based on chronological appearance and some weren’t. The hybrid template requires you to place them in chronological order top to bottom and then number them by order of importance. To really do it accurately the episode needs to be listened to either immediately before or during the revision; otherwise the chronological portion will be very difficult. Rachel Maxwell (talk) 18:19, 10 November 2018 (MST)
SG left a list of guidelines on my page. I'll try to adhere to those in future Hybrid Cast additions. Cartoon Nostalgia 18:42, 10 November 2018 (MST)

Removing IS Secret Words

I received an e-mail from FOTF the other day in response to some questions I had raised previously. One of those questions was on whether the Wiki should retain the "secret words" on the articles for the Imagination Station book series.

"...it does take away some of the fun from these books to have the secret words up and available on the AIOWiki for anyone to find. Though it could be argued that the secret words send people to our website, it’s certainly more interesting for people to figure out those words on their own... while we don’t find it a big problem, it would probably be best for those words to be removed from the Wiki."

I'm not entirely sure what course to take- their response was somewhat ambiguous. I'm leaning in favor of removing them- what purpose do they serve to the articles? However, I would love to hear your opinion before making any "snap judgements". Cartoon Nostalgia 23:50, 30 December 2018 (MST)
