Mediawiki 1.13 changes

Shadowpaw and I recently upgraded the server to the latest version of mediawiki, there are a number of changes to the way that templates work that will happen within the coming weeks,

  1. the first of which is that on character pages there is no longer a need to put in the number of episodes that the character has appeared in, it is generated from the cast boxes on the episode pages.
  2. Next the Special pages interface has been redesigned sorting the special pages into groups by type
  3. AJAX search has been enabled, now when you search for something a drop down list of pages that match your search will appear.
  4. episode lists for characters are now auto generated using changing the actor/2 to actor/3 or whatever is necessary
  5. the recently aired episodes section in the side now auto updates everyday instead of manually updating (this may be a bit buggy, let me know if you see anything strange)
  6. the staff infobox has been redone to adapt to whatever that staff member has done. ie. it no longer shows "0" for things they haven't done, as well as auto updating
  7. we now have a favicon, it's the little picture that appears next to web address, I set it to Eugene b/c it's the only picture I had that was small enough, also Eugene knows a lot of facts and we have a lot of facts about AIO. (I know, that's a pretty lame reason)
  8. admins now have a link in the toolbox to go straight to unpatrolled edits
  9. first/last num/name are no longer needed for the character pages, it is self generated by the cast infoboxes
  10. for episode infoboxes if there are multiple writers use |writer=some writer |writer2=some other writer the same follows for anything else, eg. directer, producer ect. it currently handles up to 3 for anything but can be expanded as far as we want
  11. a revamped system of displaying which episodes are available to listen to, see Episodes currently airing/200 (no longer used) for an example, I'd like some feedback on this, (see below)
  12. site notice messages are now dismisable,
  13. on character pages there is now the option of a nickname, if nothing is entered, nothing will appear
  14. on episode infoboxes the season entry has been replaced with year, now you only need to enter the year and not year

There are many more things that we can do with the newer version of the software however I doin't have a whole lot of free time right now, I'm hoping to release a few more updates in December Reddo 20:59, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Looks great! Sorry that I'm no help whatsoever... Rachel Maxwell 23:26, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
That's fine, I've been planning and slowly leading up to this update for the last 10 months, it ended up being bigger than I expected but I'm slowly working out all the kinks in it. and thanks for switching to the newer version of the templates that I created, like the cast box, it may have seemed at the time like all I just changing for the sake of change, however now it auto generates the list of episodes for characters and there may be something else hidden in it, but that's for later ;) Reddo 06:15, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
EDIT:I've fixed the problems with the auto-generated episode lists on character pages, they now include the appearance number, as well as the episode number, and made them appear in chronological order instead of alphabetical as they did earlier. Whit's page seems to load really slowly for me. I'm using ff 3.0.1 I've noticed chrome 0.2 renders the page quicker but it still is a rather long amount of time, this may be due to my slow internet connection or due to the rather large amount of templates and extension use to get the list of episodes to appear as it does. I'll do some tests and see what i can come up with. Reddo 06:31, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
EDIT 2: if you want to help the best thing would be to just keep doing what you've been doing, creating episode pages Reddo 23:21, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
Awww c'mon what's hidden, what's hidden? Rachel Maxwell 21:46, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
I don't have time to finish the coding on it right now (university classes are starting up) I'll have it done for sure before Christmas, however if all the episode pages get finished I'll make it a point to take some time and finish up the code for it. Reddo 23:21, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
Which is where I can do something. I'll try to get to it soon, but you don't have to hurry with the changes, I'm sure it'll get done. Thanks for what you've been doing! Rachel Maxwell 04:36, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
The favicon isn't working w/ my browser (Internet Explorer). Rachel Maxwell 02:54, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure why it isn't showing up, according to some forums internet explorer isn't very good with favicons, I'll try and look into it though Reddo 03:24, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Jenny Morrow?

You think we oughta move 'Guinivere Morrow' to redirect to 'Guinivere Morrow-Whittaker'? I mean we don't have Joanne's name as Joanne Woodston, she's Joanne Allen. Rachel Maxwell 03:43, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

I think that Joanne was referred to as Woodston-Allen at some point and that's why it is called that, (not sure could be wrong), but it would probably be a good idea for consistency. Also we should probably move all references of Lucy to Lucy Cunningham-Schultz-Davis, like she is referred to in BTV: Live Reddo 17:00, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
It just seems kinda silly for Jenny's page to be 'Guinivere Morrow' when the only time she was called that was the Triangle. *sighs* Yes, Lucy sadly has not become Lucy Cunningham-Schultz-Maxwell. O well. Rachel Maxwell 17:09, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Live Show

Not being able to go to the live show (weeping), I naturally voraciously devour every-single-drop of info I can get on it. What do you think about creating a page for the live show and letting people upload their pics-with a disclaimer if necessary-of the live show, short notes if they want, to have it all in one place? If we wanted to get reeeally fancy with it we could combine all the notes into one article for the page, but whatever you think.Rachel Maxwell 21:48, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

would this be something along the lines you were wanting? I'll add a link to the notes section. Reddo 01:16, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Um, dunno. I'm not a facebook member so I can't open it. Could be tho. Rachel Maxwell 19:18, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

My user name

Hey, I'm sort of new here, I created an account a while back, under the user name "American Eagle." I've since created an account on The ToO and want to create some AiO articles here, but I want my user name "American Eagle" and I forget my password. I created the account that I am now using, American Eagle (usurp). I ask that a Bureaucrat usurp American Eagle for me, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks -- American Eagle (usurp) 20:07, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

so what exactly do you want me to do? block your old account? delete it from the database? reset your password so you can use it again?Reddo 09:56, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Okay, nevermind. I've resetted my old password and I'm now American Eagle. I wanted you to usurp the old account, but maybe that can't be done here. So nevermind, I've fixed it now. Thanks anyway! -- American Eagle 17:40, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
yeah we don't have the option to do that here right now, if there is a need for it i can install the right extention onto the server, but i don't think that there is enough need right now, this is the first case in a year and a half that the need for it has come up. Reddo 18:01, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

currently airing episodes format

since there is an ever increasing amount of episodes becoming available to listen to on the whit's end player I though that we needed a better way to list them then just a straight list, I've split them into sections of 100 episodes, put them into table form, added the latest airdate with a link to listen to the episode, like most of the stuff I've been working on lately it's self updating so there's no need to worry about complex editing to keep it current. an example of my idea can be seen [Episodes currently airing/100|here],the pages takes a little longer to load then I's like however this is as fast as I can get it without reverting to the old format of just a list of episodes where you have to go to the episode page and then click to listen, I'd like some input as to what else you would like to see on this page, Reddo 04:03, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

EDIT:I also re-added the link to see all the episodes you can listen to back underneath recently aired episodes, it got lost somewhere when i was making it self updating

I really like it! It's easily understandable and readable. One can find an ep easily. The self-updating part I shall not attempt to understand, but it is ingenious. The slow thing is regrettable, but not worth changing back to the 'list' format. Rachel Maxwell 03:17, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
the speed part has now been fixed, all the pages should load fairly fast now, the only set back is that changes will now take up to a couple of hours to show up on the page. I plan on rolling this update out to the character pages sometime this weekend. Reddo 05:30, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
I added a new method for sorting episodes, you can now do it by alphabetically, as always any comments or suggestions for improvement are welcome. Reddo 20:16, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

message from Nathan Hoobler

I recently recieved a message from Nathan I thought that I should share part of it with you (the rest was about the daily player)

"Thanks for all your work on AIOWiki. It’s AWESOME and we often use it on our end for research.

Nathan"

Reddo 00:06, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

This is a dream! The official people not only know we exist, they use us for research! *walks on air*. Thank you so so much for sharing this with us! *goes off to finish ep pages* You know my first thought when I saw 'message from Nathan Hoobler' was...we're in trouble. What did we do? Rachel Maxwell 00:28, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

"New Releases"

Just want to point out that the new albums ,namely 25 and 30, haven't been put in "New Releases" yet. Even though they haven't been released yet, the information was released. Not sure if that counts, but... Dr. Bluegaard 01:19, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, however using the current format for the upcoming releases section we can only have 2 albums or else it starts to get to long, I'm trying to think of a new design for that section to acomadate for the larger number of releases that we are seeing right now. Reddo 06:32, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
I've redesigned the new releases to better suit the larger number of albums that are to be released in the coming months, let me know what you think. Reddo 19:17, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
Looks great!! Maybe you should say something on the "Wish You Were Here!" album that the cover art hasn't been released to the public yet... other than that, much better! Dr. Bluegaard 14:55, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Album 41: In Hot Pursuit

Heads up everybody! They have released the repackage art for album 41! Check out the unofficial podcast's website for more info. Dr. Bluegaard 04:31, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

if you look on the homepage of our site you'll see that we had the new cover art for 41 before they did. Reddo 19:07, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

multiple writers or directors

I noticed when there are multiple writers, directors, etc. on an episode there is only a category made for the first one. This messes up the counts on the writers page because they aren't credited. I would fix it but I'm not sure how so if someone else can that would be great. Spiderman 00:22, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

sorry about that, I'll fix it as soon as i get home tonight Reddo 00:44, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
it should be fixed now, thanks for pointing it out, if anybody else notices anything that they think doesn't quite look or work right please let me know, as it is more than likely that I missed something else when I was creating new versions of templates. Reddo 03:17, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Appearances in Books

I don't know if anyone's thought of this but do you think we could put a list of books, games etc. that different characters have been in?Peachey Keen 23:22, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

That's something that I'd like to do at some point in the future but right now most of my free time,(which I'm afraid to say is very little right now) goes to our episode section. If you have ideas for how it should look and work, feel free to go ahead and do it. Reddo 01:12, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Appearances in Books The Last Days of Eugene Meltsner (Book)

and so forth with videos, etc.Do you think we could do it that way?

I thought you were talking about making a cast box on the book pages, not on the character pages. I think there are already a few character pages that list books and videos like that. So if that's something that you want to do, go for it. Reddo 03:22, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

resources section of episode pages

I've been thinking about the way that we do the resources section of the episode pages, what if we move them to a new section of the sidebar underneath the toolbox? It would be similar to the language box on wikipedia. I think that it would clean up the way our some of our pages look while still keeping the links around. Is there any interest in doing this or should I just forget it? Reddo 18:39, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

If I'm understanding what you want to do, I think it's a really good idea! Rachel Maxwell
K I did some work on the server and I think it's working now, if you go to our test episode page you can see the links to see that page now appear in the side bar, right now it's in between navigation and the toolbox, though I'm going to see if I can get it to show up below the toolbox, also it can be set to be expanded or collapsed by default. Let me know what you think, is this something that we want to do? Reddo 04:28, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
I was able to get the other sites section to appear below the toolbox section now (i was using "p-tbx" instead of "p-tb"). I have to say I'm happy with the way it looks, however this is a wiki so it is a community decision, so what do you think?
I really like it! The only thing is, I think it could be a little more clear that they are resources for the episode. Other than that, looks great. Rachel Maxwell 12:32, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
I see what you mean, users would probaly think that they are just links to their respective home pages, however i'm not sure if I like the word resources like we had before either. What ever we decide to call this section is has to be consistant throughout the entire site for it to appear in the proper place on the sidebar. Also we should put them all in the same order, I think that the alexa web ranking of the site would be the best however as these are constantly changing i think we should stick with an alphabetacal sorting of the sites. Reddo 18:37, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
to be honest I don't really like them on the side because they're too easy to overlook. but if its just me i can deal with it Spiderman 20:43, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
I see what you mean about that, but I think if we got a different word than 'links' it would help. Or made it some weird color... Rachel Maxwell 02:53, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Weird color you say? Go ahead and pick one Reddo 05:08, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Incredible! I like LawnGreen and DodgerBlue, what about everybody else? Rachel Maxwell 11:37, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
I changed the color, I was also thinking some sort of green, We can also make it a bold font to make it stand out a bit more, Spiderman, the reason I was wanting to change it is that on some of our pages about 1/3 of the pages is just the resources links, which I though was a bit large, so I wanted to make that section of our pages a bit more condensed without removing it, however I may have gone a bit overboard with that. Reddo 15:17, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
EDIT: I played around with some of the stuff and I think that a plain black that's been bolded stands out pretty good, also what about calling the section "this page on:"? Reddo 18:19, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
I really like the 'this page on' idea. It conveys what they're gonna get when they click on it. Rachel Maxwell 02:49, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
well if everybody's happy with 'this page on' I'll start putting it on pages, the color, font, position and being collapsed or uncollapsed can be decided/changed later with minimal effort. here's what you have to type in to get it to appear
<pagesidebar>
*This Page On
**full site url | site name
**full site url | site name
**full site url | site name
</pagesidebar>
Reddo 03:08, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Google toolbar search button

I've created a button for the google toolbar it can be installed by clicking here if you just click on the button, you will get taken to our main page, if you have something in the search box or something highlighted on the screen and you click it, you will be taken to that page (if it exists) Reddo 19:14, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Wow, very cool. Thanks, Mark. -- American Eagle 23:25, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

link to itunes?

On the official site today I noticed that on their episode pages they have links to buy the episode from itunes, and i thought that it might be useful for our users if we do something like this to. Any thoughts on this? Reddo 03:05, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

That would be waaay too cool. Do it! Rachel Maxwell 17:43, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

This is a good idea. I dont think that the link should go on the sidebar. I think maybe somewhere in the infobox or general information section would be better to distinguish it as a link to buy the episode. Spiderman 18:40, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
I also think that the link would be better somewhere in the episode box, This would also allow us to do something like the recently aired episodes section where we have lists of all the episodes airing, and a link to listen to them. I did a bit of playing around on our Sandbox Episode, however I am not a very good with design and layout type things so I am sure it can be improved Reddo 19:22, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
I played around with the Sandbox Episode page and I think that it looks better than before, I put in an itunes image that links to the itunes page. Reddo 21:23, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
I went and started to add links to iTunes (to 099), the location and appearance of the links can be changed later with fairly minimal effort. Reddo 05:14, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

new sidebar section

I brought this up a while ago about adding new section to the sidebar, however we didn't implement as we didn't really have content to fill it. So here is what I was thinking

I'm also working on some statistics pages that we could also put in there, however i don't know when it will be done. Reddo 04:57, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

season and album pages redesign

I've been playing around with a few ideas to make our album and season pages contain more information than just a list of the episodes, here is what i've come up with so far for the season pages, this could also be extended to the character intersection feature, it wouldn't take a whole lot of work to switch over to this format once the episode pages have been finished. let me know if there is anything else you think should be included/removed, if you can't stand the color scheme, or if you just can't stand the look all together. Reddo 21:28, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

It looks great! Peachey Keen 00:34, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
thanks, I changed the colors so that they alternate for the general info line and the summary line, I think that this provides a bit more professional look to it. Reddo 06:39, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
Looks great, as usual! Rachel Maxwell 19:19, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Collapsing tables

I've enabled the collapsing tables feature that's found on wikipedia, I think that this could be very useful for us, if you want to know how to use this, check here, any suggestions of where we could use it? Reddo 01:25, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

I did some playing and came up with this idea, it's just a start but maybe we could replace our current album page(just a category with links to the pages) with a page that lists all the episodes in this sort of format? there would be a lot of work before we can do anything like this, as we need to finish going through all the episode pages and bringing them all up to our current standards, but it's an idea. Reddo 03:35, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

new version of poll

I think that I've found a better version of poll extension here is a comparison between the 2

So what are the thoughts on this? I think that we should do this, so far there have only been 17 comments left, so this could be quickly transfers over to the review section, and about only 250 votes meaning that a large part of our episode page either have only 1 vote or none so I don't think that it wold be a big loss to reset the voting. Also we could add it to the redesign of the season/album/intersection page that I've been working on (seen here), you would be able to vote on any place that the rating appears and it would sync your vote with all the other places that the rating is listed, which is something that I've wanted to do for quite a while. Reddo 04:10, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

  • applauds* Rachel Maxwell
I added this new format to our sandbox Episode and also to the new version of the season pages the colors can be changed later to whatever we want so that doesn't matter to much, I'm happy with the look on the season page however on the actual episode page I don't really like the way that it looks, any suggestions on where to move it? Reddo 17:35, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
I definitely am for the new poll. I also don't really like the way it looks on the episode page but i don't have any good suggestions for a better spot Spiderman 20:04, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
I tried moving the rating to the gen info section, I think it looks a lot better there, your thoughts on this place? Reddo 04:21, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
I did some more work on it with colors, also created a demo of how the votes are able to go across pages, this can be seen with Connie, Part 1 and the season test page. Reddo 14:56, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Hey gang, I like how the ratings works on the Season Test page...it's exactly what was missing when I last looked at it. As for the episode pages, they look good, but have you tried putting it into the info box? blipadouzi 15:19, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
we did try putting it there but it didn't quite look right, here is kind of what it looked like. Reddo 15:28, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
I made a quick mod to the Sandbox page to include the ratings in the infobox. I messed-up the iTunes part in the process, but what do you think of how I added it? blipadouzi 15:31, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
I fixed up the iTunes link, I think that that rating place looks better than what we had, however it still doesn't quite look right, Maybe if we moved it to above the next/prev episodes? Reddo 16:11, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Edit I made another example on our sandbox episode with the rating above the prev/next episodes
I agree, it's not quite perfect yet, but it is coming close. blipadouzi 16:17, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Edit: Call me crazy, but I prefer it under the prev/next. That being said, what about keeping it in it's current format (in columns and such) but at the top like it was originally. Only rather than at the very top, have it just above the Seasons line. (Hope this is clear enough) blipadouzi 17:31, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
I added a 3rd version of the infobox to the sandbox episode page, with the rating in between season and the album art, and I think that this is the best version so far. Reddo 17:46, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I wholly agree, this is the best version. blipadouzi 17:56, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
It's looking really great! I think I like the one in the middle of them at the Sandbox best, but that's just me. Rachel Maxwell 23:05, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
I just had another random idea, what if we move it to the very top right hand corner of the episode page like seen here? Reddo 06:09, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
I really like the red stars on your personal test page. But if I didn't know it was there, I wouldn't have seeing the ratings field. I mean, I like it there, it looks great, I just find it not intuitive enough to see. Maybe if we flash it up a bit, even if only with a simple tag in front of it, like Rating: blipadouzi 13:23, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

I added the word rating in front, also the colors of the stars and the color of stars when you hover over it to vote can be changed to whatever we want using

|starColor=yellow
|userColor=blue

Reddo 14:12, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

AIOHQ Links

Hey, Redekop, the automatic dates that are put in for the AIOHQ when the Bot does an ep page is a year ahead. 2002 when it should say 2001 etc. Rachel Maxwell 21:04, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Sorry about that, I just looked into it and it appears that AIOHQ does their season pages differently than aiosoda and aiolib, and i didn't noticed that. I guess we'll have to correct some of those by hand. Reddo 05:22, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
I'm changing them as I go now, so there won't be many wrong. Rachel Maxwell 02:59, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Eps

The ep pages, from what I can tell, are finally done! Now to update all of them to standard... Rachel Maxwell 06:14, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Wow, incredible, your like the energizer bunny of episode pages, you just keep going and going and going. I take a week off to concentrate on school work and you got over 100 episode pages done, however there are a few pages left to do:
Hopefully I'll be back from my school work early next week. Reddo
'bangs head against wall' Check the other album pages, I told myself. Did I listen? Noooo. 'bounces off to do more ep pages' Rachel Maxwell 18:15, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
K, those are done now. Not very completely, cause there's not much information about them up, but I put up what I could. Have you tried to get any info from Focus about the unaired eps? Rachel Maxwell 05:24, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

reason for the changes to templates (intersection)

As most of you know over the last few months I've changed how almost all of the templates for episode pages work, and as a result most of the episode pages need to be fixed. You probably wondered what the reason was for making this change when there was no visable change to the way the episode pages looked. Well here is the reasoning behind making those changes

Sometime in the near feature (most likely in December) I plan on releasing a new feature called character intersection. What is this you ask. It's a simple and quick way to find all of the episodes with certain characters. All you have to do is type the characters names into a template, click save page/preview and a list of all the episodes with those characters will be generated for you. A more advanced version of it will be able to also sort out different combinations of cast and crew combinations that worked on it, episodes that aired between a range of years and episodes that are currently airing. The advanced version will also be able to handle boolean logic statements like AND OR and NOT

There is some work left to do creating templates and a little on the server side of things that I'll take care of, the main thing that needs to be done is finishing our episode guide and bringing all of the old episode pages up to the current format (mainly making sure the cast infobox is included). Reddo 16:33, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

I was able to get most of the code done for the simple intersection done this weekend, currently it only works for 4 characters (final version will go up to 25) here is the code to use it:

and that will generate

and you just continue to separate characters names with the | symbol for as many characters as you want. I'm still just testing some things out, and I thought you might want to know how things are progressing. These won't be complete lists yet as we have a fair number of episodes to go. If you have any questions let me know Reddo 17:07, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

As I'm sure you are all aware we are missing a lot of episodes that don't have characters listed properly, and many more, that haven't even been started, this is why I created reddobot his first function is to go through existing episode pages and update them to a newer format. After this is completed I'm planning on doing a few slight modifications so that he will create new episode pages that are mostly blank but have the character section done, I beleive that the character section is the most time consuming part of the episode pages so it should speed up our episode make progress considerably. It will also enable our new intersection feature to it's full potential Reddo 01:54, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

  • It is, it is! Sooo I need to just do the character boxes? Or everything but the character boxes? Rachel Maxwell 02:54, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
My bot is still going through the old episode pages and updating them(done up to 320), but when I finish that and start on the new pages, just the character boxes will be done by reddobot the rest, gen. info, summary, plot, poll, external links ect. will have to be done by hand. Reddo 03:03, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
So everything but? Do I just leave it like it is then, that part I mean?Rachel Maxwell 04:19, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
the best thing to do would be put and when I get a chance I'll get reddobot to fill it in for us, however you can also just leave it blank. Hopefully this should help you out with making the episode pages Reddo 04:38, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Reorginize Orginal Releases

It got to thinking, and thought on the pages for the first 15 albums that instead of telling what the diffrences are between the gold audio release and the orginal tape release, that it would be better to create an indvidual page for each one of old albums since it is essentially a different product. Erwin Springer 17:29, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

I think that's a great idea, I think we talked about it a while back, and agreed that we should but nothing ever happened about it. Reddo 17:52, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
I have just finished writing the first 15 orginal tape albums and put them in a catogorey. Erwin Springer 20:58, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Delete Page

I'm not sure how to delete pages, but the page The importance of failure is not needed, because it is doubled by the Catogorey The Importance of Faliure Erwin Springer 22:53, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Whit on Home Page?

Lately I have been like taking out the background of character pictures (from album art) and having it be a picture that has a transparent background that I have fixed with Photoshop, like the one to the right, or also the current picture of Tom on the home page. Soon I will upload newly fixed pictures of Mr. Whittaker. My actual question was if it might be a good idea if we had a .png picture of whit on the home page. I would be MORE than happy to upload a photoshoped picture of whit... and for that matter, if someone would get me access to other character pictures, than i would deffinately do it with that too. --NateDude24 November 2008

I think it would be a good idea to have whit on the homepage, I'm not sure but I think that when this version of the homepage was made the picture of tom was supposed to be sort of a tribute to walker edminston. I've also been looking into some code that will allow use to use random images, so we could put 10 or so character images into a list and then everytime somebody visits/refreshes the homepage a different character will come up. Reddo 17:36, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, maby Whit should show up more often though. Just a thought. Like I said though, I could take out the background of any pictures that someone may want there. NateDude24 December 03, 2008
Would you do Eugene from Eugene Sings Christmas, for Christmas? I'm sure I can find the image if you don't have it. Thanks! Rachel Maxwell 05:44, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
Ok, so I did do the eugene sings christmas dude, but in the old internet explore the "empty space" is like a grey colour. It's not that way if it's a GIF. I'll upload both anyway though.
Here it is: The PNG is to above and the GIF is below

Unfortunately the quality is fairly low on the GIF. In Mozilla Firefox, the png looks just fine. I'll get back later with word about other popular web browsers. (such as Google Chrome or Apple's Safari)
I checked the newest Internet Explore, the newest Google Chrome, the newest Firefox, and the newest Safari. The png looks great on all of them. The reduce in quality, (in my opinion), is not worth one web browser.
Thanks, the png is definitely better quality than the gif, Reddo 00:40, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

episodes on character pages

I wasn't happy with the load time of the character pages so I redid the code for how it generates the character list, i was able to cut the load time for whit's page down to a third of what it was however as a result the episode number now have to appear behind the name and not get linked, which I don't think looks quite as good.

I think that we need to make a decision on how we want to do this section of the character pages

From what I can tell we currently have 3 options

  • manually do them
    • fastest loading time (6 seconds for whit's page on my watch)
    • all character pages have to be updated manually everytime a new episode airs
  • automatically #: name
    • self-updates
    • very slow (about 30 seconds for whit's page)
  • automatically name (#)
    • self-updates
    • reasonable loading time (about 11 seconds for whit's page)
  • Note1: these times are on dial-up internet
  • Note2: whit's page will be the biggest and slowest loading one
  • Note3: These are the ideas i thought of, if you have an idea that isn't on this list, please suggest it

Option three looked alright to me, but I'm not entirely sure I understand what I'm commenting on. Rachel Maxwell

Stars In Our Eyes

Just wanted to point out that the Plot section doesn't match with the episode. - Anne

Unknown Actor

I have just finished replacing all the links the pointed to Actor Unknown, and pointed them to Unknown. In future episodes, plaeae put Unknown, if the actor for a charcater is unknown, don't put Actor Unknown or anything else. Erwin Springer 22:28, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

thanks for doing that, it was mostly my fault that they ended up saying the wrong thing, we started out using unknown but I put Unknown actor when I created some of the pages using reddobot and never went back to check it, also I fixed up a few pages that said Unknown actor. Reddobot Episodes

I'm also happy to say, that there are no more "Reddobot Episodes" left, which means that every episode has been filled with information. Erwin Springer 23:10, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Tears of joy are about to start coming. Really. This is marvelous. So tired of episode pages. Rachel Maxwell 06:43, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Last episodes

On pages such as BTV: Live, on the next episode spot it says last episodes to date and doesn't link to a page and is bolded. How can I apply this on a page that I created (Radio Scripts, Volume 3) Erwin Springer 01:04, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

if you put in Last Book to Date and it will format it properly, it comes from an if statement in the book template. you can also use No Previous Books on the fist book of the series
Thanks! Erwin Springer 01:35, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

BTV: Obedience

BTV: Obedience has 7 writers and it looks like there isn't a template for that. I don't know who makes these templates, but this one is needed. Erwin Springer 15:23, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

wow 7 writers, I must say that's more than I was expecting, anyway I'll add that the the template when I get back from my holidays on Friday, Reddo 23:01, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
