Are you the Eugene I know? Erwin Springer [talk] 18:48, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Pretty good. Going to help with the wiki? :) Erwin Springer [talk] 19:10, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Family Trees

Hey how's the family tree project going? We're less than 200 edits away from the big 100k. God Bless ~ Nate ~ Talk 17:27, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I know. I've been experimenting with it in an HTML file on my computer. I think that I've got it worked out now, but I can't think of a way to create a simple template with it. I could start it without any templates for now and clean it up as time goes by. I should have it up soon, though. — Eugene [talk] 18:07, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
It looks great! Unfortunately the code is pretty 'scary'. I think that it is ready for us to do several family trees, in time for 100k. Then we could eventually come up with a good, simple template. I'm thinking it will go on the family pages, such as Parker family. Probably we should just put a tag above it, saying
<!-- Do not edit the family tree! If something needs to be changed please post it on the discussion page -->
Good work! God Bless ~ Nate ~ Talk 20:34, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
That's just what I was thinking. I can get started with the Parker family right away, but I'll need some help with more complicated families like the Meltsners. Are you having any problems understanding the current template? — Eugene [talk] 20:47, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
I can't do coding but I can research. Give me a couple hours and I'll get you the Meltsner info, and whatever else I can get together. Rachel Maxwell 20:50, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

So far:

Meltsners:

Eugene Meltsner has a brother – Everett Meltsner. Their parents are Thelma and Leonard Meltsner--both are only children. Thelma’s maiden name is Cronholm. Thelma’s mother’s maiden name is Mushnik. Leonard’s father’s name is Hiram Meltsner. Thelma's mother has at least one sibling: a sister named Martha. Eugene married Katrina Shanks-Meltsner, who has two younger brothers (names unknown). Her parents names are Millie and Armitage Shanks. Katrina’s great-grandmother (assumedly on her father’s side) was named Porcelain.

Whittakers:

Harold Whittaker’s first wife’s name is unknown, they had John Whittaker. He then married Fiona Donarrel. John Whittaker married Guenevere Morrow, and they had three children: Jerry, Jana, and Jason. Jana married Phil Dowd, and they had two children: Monty and Jenny.

Thanks, Rachel! This is a big help! :D I'll get started on programming the trees for each family with this information. Thanks!

Eugene [talk] 21:16, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Sure; I'm getting together all the family info I can find--no obligation to use all of it (especially since some of it's incomplete) but I'll keep giving it to you if you don't mind. :)

McAlisters: Horace and Grover McAlister are twin brothers. Horace is married to Phoebe, and Grover is married to Rachel. Horace’s son is named Elmer. Somewhere there’s an Abel McAlister, who has fourteen children. He is the great-grandfather of Trent DeWhite, who is the brother of Jared DeWhite. Their father’s name is Stephen, and their mother’s name is unknown.

Jeffersons: Alex Jefferson’s parents are Rachel and Mr. Jefferson. His mother’s mother’s name (and her maiden name) is Jordan. His mother has at least one sibling, a brother, whose son’s name is Cal.

Washingtons Ed and Elaine Washington have three children: Antoine, Tamika, and Marvin. Ed has a sister who has a son named Xavier.

Barclays George and Mary Barclay have three children: Donna, Jimmy, and Stuart. George's brother's name is Donald, and he has a son named Len. George also has a sister named Gwen. George's mother's name is Victoria. Jimmy and Donna’s have a great-grandmother named Benson, who has died. Rachel Maxwell 21:18, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Allens: Jack Wilbur Allen married Emily. They had at least one child together, who had at least one child. After Emily died, Jack married Joanne Woodston.

Bassetts: Wooton Bassett is twin to Wellington Bassett. Their father’s name is Winston. (Wooton’s father’s father appeared on the show but their names are unknown) Wellington’s daughter’s name is Talia. Wooton has a cousin named Wilma, who has twin daughters named Madison and Maurice. He has other cousins named Arnold and Ernie Bassett. He has an aunt named Patty. He has an uncle named Langley Bassett.

Shepards: Ben and Ellen Shepard have two children: Aubrey and Bethany. Ellen’s mother’s name is Betty. Rachel Maxwell 21:35, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Isn't the dotted horizontal line used for a married couple? God Bless ~ Nate ~ Talk 22:49, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
I don't really know. I'll double check on the formatting and fix the trees if necessary. Thanks for pointing that out! — Eugene [talk] 23:03, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Okay, so I can't find anything that says how family trees are supposed to be formatted. But, what you said makes sense. So I've just decided that any dotted lines in AIO wiki family trees indicate marriage. That'll be the format that we will follow. But now I'm wondering how we should show divorced couples. Any ideas? — Eugene [talk] 23:49, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Yeah that is a good question, to which I do not currently have any ideas. I was also wondering about children who are adopted, like Kelly. God Bless ~ Nate ~ Talk 01:42, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Another good question. Oh, and did you notice that on Betty Shepard's page it says the she is the mother of Ellen Shepard, but on Grandpa Shepard's page it says that he is the father of [Ben Shepard|Ben]] and is married to Betty? Do you know what the truth is? — Eugene [talk] 01:48, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

I saw that -- they're Ellen's parents, so I don't know why they have the last name Shepard on here.

Kendalls: Bill and June Kendall have a daughter named Connie. June has an uncle named Joe Phinneman—Connie’s great-uncle. Bill has a sister named Helen. He has a mother named Mildred Kendall. Rachel Maxwell 03:39, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Great work on the trees Eugene! Erwin Springer [talk] 03:47, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! It's taking a lot of work, but it does look great! — Eugene [talk] 03:59, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Looks terrific!! Something I forgot to include -- in the McAlister family tree -- Trent eventually marries Mandy and they have at least one child who has Brandon and a girl. Course, if Mandy is included, here's her tree: older brother David Straussberg, father Stephen Straussberg, mother Rachel Straussberg. Again, great job -- the trees look great! Rachel Maxwell 05:25, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
Well, it wouldn't look as great if I didn't have someone to help me research the families! Thanks for your help Rachel!
Oh, another thing. Do you know how Eugene and Bernard are related? I can't quite remember, and I'm having a hard time searching for the answer. Thanks again for your assistance! :D — Eugene [talk] 05:39, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
You did the hard stuff -- I just listened to Odysseys and surfed the wiki. :D But you're very welcome, and thank you for all your work on it.
Bernard's third cousin is Martha Mushnick. I'll relisten to Feud for Thought soon and see if I can figure it out better. The McAlisters too, I'm sure I can do better figuring out where some of them go. Again, thanks for your work on this! Rachel Maxwell 05:44, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
That depends on your definition of "hard stuff". But it sounds like you had lots of fun searching for all the facts you came up with! I'm glad that you like it and that you could contribute to it. :D — Eugene [talk] 06:01, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
there's now a gadget to help with the editing, it can be found under the gadgets tab of your preferences, it makes a link in the left hand tool box switch over to an ascii version, might be a little quicker Reddo 17:16, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

admin?

you know what you're doing with css and js, do you want to be an admin so you can just edit them yourself instead of having to get someone else to do it for you? Reddo 20:49, 3 August 2011 (PDT)

That would be cool! Sure, it'd be great to be able to make changes instantly. Thanks for asking me. — Eugene [talk] 20:56, 3 August 2011 (PDT)

Album Images Template

Hey would you mind coding, whenever you get a chance, a better template for album images/illustrations/pre-illustrations which includes the info box like you made for character images. Sorry, I hate to ask, because I'd do it myself; I just don't have the time. God Bless ~ Nate ~ Talk 17:52, 9 November 2011 (MST)

Sure, I don't mind. I was hoping to do that anyway. — Eugene [talk] 18:05, 11 November 2011 (MST)

Book images template

would you be willing to add some sort of art parameter to the book image template you made? I have some of the art for the IS series, thanks Reddo 22:32, 29 December 2011 (MST)

Sure! I'll try to get that done by Sunday. — Eugene [talk] 22:35, 29 December 2011 (MST)

css

I like the css you put on your page to make the side bar disappear, really cool :)

I'm working on a new version of the audio player that's all in HTML/Javascript/CSS. I'm still working on finishing up the code for some things on it like the free section and creating a playlist/ playing random, but the majority off it is done. You can see it at aio.html as you can see it's still lacking in a major way on the CSS part. Any suggestions of what to do for CSS? Reddo 22:53, 4 March 2012 (MST)

Thanks! I was just goofing off and seeing how much I could change the wiki interface with just CSS. It also makes for larger content space. :)
Why are you re-making the audio player with HTML/Javascript/CSS? Is there a problem with using Silverlight, or do you just want to simplify it? Either way, I think it's a good start. I have some ideas from the Silverlight interface I was working on that I could put into CSS. I could start working on that, if you want. — Eugene [talk] 22:07, 5 March 2012 (MST)
the backend end of it is all for a web project for one of my classes (experimenting with google Dart, using xmlhttprequest to run command line code on the server, fun stuff like that ), I thought it would be easier to port something to HTML5 then make something totally new, and as long we have the code for we it may as well put it up, plus it opens it up to linux and mobile devices Reddo 23:51, 5 March 2012 (MST)
Sounds cool! :D I've mostly finished the CSS. It looks pretty good. How do you want me to get it to you? — Eugene [talk] 23:15, 11 March 2012 (MDT)
Drop box, email, yousendit, any of those work fine, you still have my email, right? Reddo 23:37, 11 March 2012 (MDT)
Yep. I'll email it to you soon. I just have to fix a few things that I forgot about. — Eugene [talk] 23:41, 11 March 2012 (MDT)
I have a new version up, it's pretty close to yours, you can see it here works best in chrome right now, but I'll work on more browser support next month after classes are done. Also it's not feature complete yet, the play order isn't finished, right now only random works. Just thought you might want an update on it, thanks again for the design. Reddo 19:27, 21 March 2012 (MDT)

wiki speed

what do you think of it now? We're on a free trial of a new hosting plan Reddo 11:47, 12 October 2012 (MDT)

It's great! Not as fast as some other websites, but it's much, much faster than before - and with no error messages! On top of that, it passes my "open multiple server-intense pages in multiple tabs simultaneously" test. So I really like it. Thank you and Shadowpaw for your work! — Eugene [talk] 00:57, 14 October 2012 (MDT)

css wiki help

Hey Eugene, do you know of any way to get rid of the borders on a wiki image gallery. I've been trying to on this page http://www.aiowiki.com/wiki/User:Aiow/album_thumbnails. Because the wiki locks what i can edit with css, I can not figure out a way to get rid of the borders. Thank you. Aiow (talk) 15:03, 12 December 2012 (MST)

Hey, Aiow. Yeah, it's fairly simple. Just a clarification though, do you want to remove the borders for just yourself or for everyone? And do you want it just for that page, or for all of the galleries across the wiki? — Eugene [talk] 16:34, 15 December 2012 (MST)
Thanks, I know how to get rid of the borders site wide, but I was looking for just that page. I want any one to be able to view the page and have no borders. I know I could make a user css file, but that's not what I'm after. I've tried < span > and < div > all with no border. But the gallery over rides the declaration. On a another note, is there any way to use a image as a background image. I've checked in firebug, and when I set a background image in css, the wiki blocks the whole proptry and it reads /* insecure input */. Aiow (talk) 09:40, 17 December 2012 (MST)
Ah... I get it now. I've tried to do something like that before, but unfortunately there's not really any way to do that with the gallery tag. The only way to really get around it is to create a custom template based on the gallery. That way you can make it look exactly the way you want it to. If you want, I could set-up a custom template for you to use. Just let me know! :)
As for your question about background images, no. It isn't possible to define an image as a background for any element within the wiki editor. There is a workaround, but we only use it when it's necessary.
Hope that helps you! — Eugene [talk] 13:35, 19 December 2012 (MST)

Hey, i started this page and....

i started the episodes with parental warnings page. since you own album 1, could you tell me if Nothing to Fear has one? thanks! I love eugene (talk) 12:20, 22 July 2014 (MDT)

Sorry for the late response. I just got back from a week at the hospital... Anyway, I checked that episode and it doesn't have a parental warning. Hope that helps! — Eugene [talk] 13:47, 27 July 2014 (MDT)

Hello, Eugene, this is Scientific Guy. It's nice to see that you're still around and alive (Ha!) but yes, I completely understand your busyness. I am wondering, could you make an AIOWiki Podcast logo for me? I know that you did the wiki's current logo; would a podcast logo be something you'd be willing to do? Perhaps we could brainstorm what exactly it would look like and such. Thanks Scientific Guy (talk / AIOC Episode Timeline) 19:32, 20 October 2017 (MDT)

Hey there! That's definitely a possibility! I didn't even know about the AIOWiki Podcast until last week, but I love the idea and am totally on board. Do you have any ideas or a design in mind already? If you'd like to reach out to me on FB or elsewhere, send me a message via matthewbird.ca, otherwise we can talk here. — Eugene [talk] 16:35, 24 October 2017 (MDT)
Alright, I sent a message via MatthewBird, but I'm not sure if it went through. Did you get it? Scientific Guy (talk / AIOC Episode Timeline) 11:33, 4 November 2017 (MDT)
Sorry I never got back to you, SciGuy. :/ I was really sick at the end of 2017 and life got incredibly chaotic in the following months. I'll email you back if you still want to talk about the podcast. I'd love to get involved and help in any way you need! :) — Eugene [talk] 22:42, 8 April 2019 (MDT)
Hi again, Eugene! :) It's great to have you back! I got the logo question sorted out, but I'll let you know if I need anything else. Scientific Guy (talk / AIOC Episode Timeline) 10:35, 9 April 2019 (MDT)
Welcomelogo.png
Would you be able to come up with a new version of the main page welcome image? I really liked the previous one, maybe something like that? I can send you the color-altered pics of Whit, Eugene, and Connie if you need. Scientific Guy (talk / AIOC Episode Timeline) 13:11, 10 April 2019 (MDT)

Oh, for sure! Having more characters gathered together would be nice, as long as it isn't too crowded. I'll deffos take a swing at it. I'll send you an email so you can send me the altered pics too--thanks! — Eugene [talk] 15:47, 21 April 2019 (MDT)

I like the picture you made SciGuy! How do you decide when a new logo needs to be designed? Also, are there only a select few that are allowed to make a logo for the wiki? TheAIOlover (talk) 18:33, 12 May 2019 (MDT)

Testing Mentions

The system says that it will now notify a user if their user page is linked to. Wanted to see if that would work and if it works for myself--which it might not since it might filter out my own mentions. Hmmm... we'll see. User:EugeneEugene [talk] 03:45, 4 April 2020 (MDT)
