Isaiah 57:8

8Behind your doors and your doorposts you have put your pagan symbols. Forsaking me, you uncovered your bed, you climbed into it and opened it wide; you made a pact with those whose beds you love, and you looked on their nakedness.

1 Corinthians 13:12
12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

A Glass Darkly

“A Glass Darkly” is episode #558 of the Adventures in Odyssey audio series. It was written by John Fornof and Nathan Hoobler, and originally aired on January 15, 2005.

Plot

Trent is overjoyed when he is one of three students from the whole district chosen to audition for the Odyssey Chamber Music Society. He has been praying fervently that God will help him get into the group and he truly believes this prayer will be answered. However, Trent is mystified when he's accused of starting a food fight and forced to stay in detention, causing him to miss the audition. Why would God make this happen?

In detention Trent learns that Rodney Rathbone is planning to place a jar full of bees in Dr. Hawthorne’s car! Trent goes to Dr. Hawthorne's car and gets the bees out, but Dr. Hawthorne thinks Trent himself was tampering with the car. Trent's in trouble again and forced to stay in detention the next day, forcing him to miss the last music audition. Dejectedly, Trent begins to believe God has completely let him down.

Across town, Wooton transforms a broken vacuum into the Wooton Bassett Deluxe Edition Riding Vacuum to help Marvin enjoy his chores! When Trent comes in bemoaning his situation at Whit's End, Whit uses the vacuum as an example. God can take something broken and useless (like Trent's situation) and use it for good. Shortly thereafter, Trent calls the music society and they inform him they have no place for trouble-makers in their group. Trent still can't understand why God would do this to him.

However, at that same moment, Dr. Hawthorne is calling the principal to tell him that he discovered a dead bee in his car. He is severely allergic to bees. If Trent hadn’t been in detention, there’s a good chance Dr. Hawthorne would have died.

Wooton Bassett: You look kind of like Powerboy did after he got locked in the Tweezers of Doom.

Wooton Bassett: What is that on the floor?!!
John Whittaker: My foot.
