James Curtis is a man who went to Marus as a young man and stayed at Hillingdale Haven until he mysteriously disappeared in Fendar's Legacy. He is the Chronicler of the Marus adventures.

James first appeared in the book Glennall's Betrayal. He is a ten year old boy who starts out in the United States of America during the great depression. James is an orphan who stays with his Aunt Edna, who is a firm believer in God, while James is not. While he is running away from home and being chased by the police, he enters into the enchanting world of Marus.
