Downloading AIOC Episodes

One of the cons of the AIOC is that, while you can listen to almost every episode, there is not a way to download them. What a shame...

Actually, there is!

PLEASE NOTE! Downloading files from a streaming service can only be legal if you use them in the same manner as you would use the service itself, e.g. privately. Check to make sure downloading is legal before you do so.

On the Club’s Episodes (or Podcasts) page, start up an episode and right-click in the space right after the audio icon in the player bar (see yellow dot in left side of image). Select “Inspect” or “Inspect Element.” A bar will open up on either the bottom or side of the page. Expand the <audio> tag right above the highlighted area. Two links will appear, one ending in .m4a and the other ending in .ogg.

  • On Internet Explorer: right-click on either link (http://cf.c.ooyala.com/Long String.m4a or http://cf.c.ooyala.com/Long String.ogg) and select “Edit as HTML.” Highlight the link and open it in a new tab.
  • On other browsers: right-click on either link and open it in a new tab.

Right-click anywhere in the window, select “Save as…,” and save the file (or merely click on the download icon on the in-browser media player). The format for the .m4a link is AAC, which is similar to MP3, but not compatible with all MP3 devices. The format for the .ogg link is Ogg Vorbis, which I have found to be slightly more versatile.

Currently, there is not a known way to download the videos on the AIOC.
