Question: Why did Margaret Faye and Katrina Shanks propose? I thought the guys were supposed to propose... not the girls! (For Whom the Wedding Bells Toll).

Margaret and Katrina proposed because they wished to marry Whit and Eugene, respectively. Traditionally the male does propose, but that doesn't mean that girls can't propose for themselves. In those two specific circumstances, it was clear that Whit wouldn't propose because he didn't think of Margaret like that and wouldn't have married her anyways. Eugene wouldn't propose because he already had, and had been denied. He had accepted that the friendship must remain platonic, and wouldn't have proposed again.
