History

Ezekiel was a farmhand on Bernard Walton's grandfather's farm.

While Bernard was visiting his grandfather's farm, Ezekiel revived a bird that had been apparently shot by a bully named Percy. This caused Bernard to believe Ezekiel was an angel. As revenge for interupting his fun, Percy then accused Ezekiel of kidnapping after local girl disappeared. Percy believed hair ribbons he had discovered in Ezekiel's bags to belong to the missing girl. On the way to talk to the sheriff, Ezekiel told Bernard that the hair ribbons were his daughter's. He explaned that one day after he had been drinking, his daughter drowned in a river. After that, he never drank again. Instead, he discovered God's love and forgiveness. As they were talking, the sheriff stopped to pick them up while on his way to where the girl was found. She was not kidnapped, but was found on ledge below a cliff. Bernard was then lowered down on a rope by Ezekiel and they were able to save the girl. At the celebration for them, Ezekiel disappeared and Bernard never saw him again.

Ezekiel mentions he had a daughter who loved him dearly, but she drowned as a child.
