The Day Ambrosia Stood Still, Part 1

“The Day Ambrosia Stood Still, Part 1” is episode #1 of the Last Chance Detectives audio series. It was written by Marshal Younger and Robert Vernon, and was released on an unknown date.

Summary

Jason Whittaker drives through a little Arizona town where odd things are happening with their electricity as a vote is soon to be held on whether or not to allow a casino to come into town. He then disappears.

Plot

Jason Whittaker is driving through Arizona in the middle of a storm, when his car begins acting strangely; his brakes fail, causing him to crash. A man (Frank Montrose) stops and reluctantly takes Jason back to his truck stop to call for help. There, they meet Frank's wife Selena. Jason calls his superiors and explains that he will be a little late as Selena chastises Frank for picking him up. Minoma (Martha) Whitefeather stops at the station to call for help regarding the car -- which looks exactly like hers -- she saw crashed on the side of the road. She offers to take Jason into town to Pop's Garage to have his car towed. On the way into town, he meets her granddaughter Winnie, and learns about Martha's campaign to keep a casino out of Ambrosia.

Meanwhile, Frank and Selena return to Jason's wrecked car and proceed to go through his things. By the ID in his wallet (which he left in the glovebox), Selena determines that he is with the government, and declares her intention of doing something about him.

Jason, Martha, and Winnie arrive at the diner. Winnie is sent off to the B-17 (her friends' clubhouse/headquarters) to work on fliers as Jason is introduced to Pop Fowler, who agrees to tow Jason's car the next morning. After reminding Pop to come to the debate the next day, Martha leaves.

Pop shows Jason the B-17 and introduces him to the Last Chance Detectives: Mike (his grandson), Spence, Ben, and the aforementioned Winnie. Jason admires the set-up of the plane and comments on the way they take their investigations seriously. Mike reveals his plan to become an Air Force pilot and, under Jason's questions, Winnie tells Jason about his father's being Missing in Action.

That evening, as Jason is on the phone with his father at the diner, all the appliances begin shorting out, the lights fail, and the diner is thrown into chaos. Only the diner is affected. Spencer suggests that there was some sort of power surge -- but Ben insists that the silverware was moving across the tables.

Pop and Mike drops off Jason at the Wigwam Motor Lodge and apologizes for the "earthquake, or whatever it was". Jason says it was no earthquake, but will say no more. The Fowlers leave. The next morning, they discover that Jason's car has disappeared. At the Motor Lodge, Jason's room is opened; it is trashed, but Jason is nowhere to be found.
