[edit] Summary

A weird man from a weird town visits the Barclays. He wants George to become the new pastor of his church— in Pokenberry Falls. Pokenberry Falls is a small town, with NO life at all and little things to do.

[edit] Plot

The Barclay family's exploration of Pokenberry Falls continues. It seems it is a town in decline, run down and going even further downhill. Its teenagers, as evidenced by Ellis’s granddaughter, Amy, live in hopelessness and despair. They long for the day when they can leave the town. Meanwhile, they turn to alcohol, which helps them forget where they live. It’s a town in need of a heart and a soul, a town that needs Jesus. After much thought and prayer, the Barclays decide that this town is where God wants them to be. They say good-bye to Odyssey and hello to Pokenberry Falls.

[edit] Discussion Questions

  1. Why did Amy and the kids of Pokenberry Falls feel the need to drink alcohol?
  2. George told Mr. Lionel that it wasn’t up to either one of them whether George became their new pastor, but it was up to God. ##What did he mean?
  3. How would the Barclays know if God said “yes” to the job?
  4. The Barclays knew that Pokenberry Falls was a place that really needed people who knew Jesus. Where are some places around where you live that really need Jesus?

[edit] Notes

  • Jimmy stood up to Amy about drinking, but later on "Living in the Gray" his girlfriend Felicia has the same problem.
  • The title for this episode, and part one of this episode, may be a reference to Mayberry, RFD, a short-lived spinoff series of The Andy Griffith Show.
  • The elder Barry Lionel is based off of Mr. Potter in It's A Wonderful Life--his name comes from the actor who played Potter, Lionel Barrymore.
