[edit] Summary
The gang from Odyssey goes on another trip to Camp What-A-Nut. This time the guys and girls compete in various events and Lucy meets a new friend named Jill who leads her into trouble.
[edit] Plot
After getting fired from her job at Whit's End, Connie decides to be a counselor at Camp What-a-Nut. She writes to her mother about the camp and the unusual activities that have occurred there during the past week. First, in her cabin are Lucy, Donna, Robyn, and Allison. Each has her own little quirk-Donna and Robyn love clothes and makeup, Allison is addicted to TV, and Lucy makes friends with a rebellious girl named Jill. Meanwhile, the boys-Jimmy, Jack, and Oscar-give athletics a bad name by severely botching both archery and canoeing, much to the dismay of their counselor, Fred Zachary.
Later, when the girls go on a nature walk/camp out, Jill persuades Lucy to sneak away-something that is strictly against the rules--to see a beautiful waterfall and a herd of wild horses. That night, the girls bed down in their tents. Donna and Robyn complain about the dirt, bugs, and rain, while Allison continues to bemoan her lack of TV. Suddenly, they hear strange noises outside. The girls are instantly terrified. Allison makes things worse by telling stories of "the Goat-Man," a supposed monster that roams the territory. The noise moves closer until it's right outside their tent. Something lifts their tent flap. The girls scream in terror.
[edit] Discussion Questions
- Connie gave Lucy and Jill a warning the first time they disobeyed. How many “second chances” would you give someone who disobeyed?
- Are there times when it’s appropriate to punish without first giving a warning?
- Donna and Robyn were obsessed with makeup and clothes, while Allison was addicted to TV. Do you have any obsessions that you need to let go of?
- If so, what are they?
- Lucy said she was sorry for hurting Connie. What did Lucy mean by that?

[edit] Notes
- VERSION DIFFERENCE: The broadcast version of this episode begins with Chris going camping on Miller's Mountain. She stops at a gas station, but finds that she forgot her wallet. While she goes back to get her wallet, she leaves the tape with the gas station attendant to listen to.
- These episodes were made into an AIO Activity Pack, Connie Goes to Camp, Volume #13.
- A line in this episode "We can do anything the boys can do, even better" is a reference to the song with pretty much the same title.
- The character of Mrs. Neidlebark is played by . . . a man! Here, he is doing a great impersonation of Julia Child/Queen Victoria.
